Adnan Januzaj finally signed a five year contract with Manchester United after months of drawn out negotiations that had been complicated both by Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure and interest from other clubs.
Up until now, no other clubs with interest had been named but according to a reliable source close to Voetbal Nieuws, no less than 12 clubs registered ‘extensive’ interest in the 18-year-old.
The source said: “Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli, AS Roma and Fiorentina very interested in the services of the young Belgian.
“But Real Madrid and FC Barcelona had come forward. They were only too happy to take him to Spain. Rivals Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain were the other hijackers on the coast.”
Voetbal Nieuws were consistently a source of fresh quotes from Januzaj’s agent Dirk De Vriese over the past two weeks, so they had close links to the Januzaj story throughout and are a credible source.
Many questioned United’s ability to lure the biggest stars this summer after the failed pursuits of Cesc Fabregas, Sami Khedira, Ander Herrera but it’s fantastic that Januzaj decided that Old Trafford was the right place for his career to blossom. Januzaj could have moved to any club he wanted but he chose United.
United have a long history of turning promising youngsters into superstars and there is every reason to believe that Januzaj can become our latest star.

£5 million signing on fee for a promising lad is to much,his agent alledges interest from other top clubs and the fear factor drives ridiculous wages and fees.
Paul Scholes never behaved like that,just agreed what ever Sir Alex offered him.
If City had offered it to him and United lost out what would your comments be then !
Great that Januzaj is staying. He could become as big as Ronaldo. SAF’s new book will not do any favours for Rooney, and I wonder whether he could & should have waited till June.
I think this book and its potential implications are frightening. The timing stinks and it reaks of commercial gain being put before the best interests of the club. The best we can hope for in the book around the Rooney situation is that Ferguson goes for Stretford and paints Rooney as a misguided and poorly advised fool. Ferguson based much of the success of his tenure on managing egos, but l fear his may just be about to get the better of him in print!
I cant see Sir Alex doing anything detrimental to Man Utd interest’s,at least I hope not !
This situation increasingly had danger written all over it. We should be closing deals like this as Manchester United, but we haven’t in recent years and so those involved are to be commended. Much to do in the transfer market though in January, let us hope some big lessons have been learned.
