Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has found a new role in football.

Ten Hag United career

The Dutchman enjoyed huge success at Ajax, winning league titles and reaching the semi-final of the Champions League in 2019.

As a result, he was offered the Manchester United job in 2022 and won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

Nonetheless, his league performances tailed off in his second season, as the club finished eighth in the table, and he was finally sacked in October 2024 after a 1-2 defeat to West Ham United.

Bayer Leverkusen shambles

Ten Hag was given the chance to manage Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025, but his time at the club was nothing short of a disaster.

The former Manchester United manager was sacked after three games, after failing to win the trust of the players or the board in a disastrous spell.

After losing his job, the manager turned down an offer from Ajax to return to his former club.

FC Twente role

Ten Hag has now officially agreed to a return to football, but this time not as a manager.

FC Twente’s official website confirms, “Erik ten Hag (55) will join FC Twente on February 1st. He signs a contract until mid-2028. Starting in the 2026-2027 season, Ten Hag will succeed current technical director Jan Streuer, who recently announced his retirement after this season.”

The site continues to explain, “Ten Hag will already be working in FC Twente’s football organization towards the new season. He returns to the club where he began his professional career. He enjoyed great success as a player at FC Twente and held his first coaching positions there.”

Commenting on his return to the club, Ten Hag added, “I think it’s wonderful and special to return to FC Twente, where I’ve been a supporter at Het Diekman since I was a young boy.”

He also claimed, “I want to strengthen FC Twente’s technical foundation together with the Supervisory Board, management, and staff, so the club can sustainably realize its potential as a regional flagship.”
