Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has been banned after pleading guilty to breaking the law, it has emerged.

The BBC reports that Yoro has been banned from driving for six months after he was caught speeding in his Porsche at more than 70mph past homes and a school.
The Frenchman’s Porsche Cayenne GTS is said to have been clocked at 72mph by a camera in the Manchester suburb of Withington in August.
Court papers show that Yoro was speeding at nearly two-and-a-half times the 30mph speed limit when the incident took place.
Yoro, who joined United in July 2024 from Lille in a deal worth around £52m, was not in line for an automatic ban by totting up 12 penalty points. He was instead disqualified due to the high speed he was driving at in a 30mph zone.
In addition to the six-month ban, Yoro, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was hit with a £666 fine and ordered to pay £120 in costs and a £266 victim surcharge.
Yoro’s lawyer issues statement
Yoro’s lawyer, Lisa Nevitt, wrote to the court in a statement, “He is not liable to a totting up disqualification but understands because of the speed involved that it is highly likely the court will impose a disqualification rather than penalty points.”
“Our client would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the incident which came about as he was rushing to take a friend to the railway station.”
“Our client further states that he believes where the speeding took place was at a point where the road was broad and there was little prospect of being any contact with any vulnerable road users such as pedestrians.”
The Daily Mail note that records show Yoro’s car was only registered in August last year, shortly before the incident occurred. The player was charged by Greater Manchester Police with speeding and failing to identify the driver of the car.
The newspaper adds that letters sent to Yoro’s home asking for information went unanswered. A United official assisted, leading to Yoro pleading guilty online to both charges. However, the police withdrew the allegation of failing to identify the driver.
Yoro was one of more than 7,000 people across England and Wales to be prosecuted for speeding in the past week.

Yoro played a fantastic game for the club last night, and has always appeared to put in his best, but there’s NO excuse for this, and he should be charged with bringing the club into disrepute, and get a fine that will hurt, rather than these meaningless fines that he won’t realise he has paid. Good he’s apologised, but that is tainted somewhat by excuses that have been used to great derision by drivers doing 40 in a 30 or 90 in a 70. But 70 in a 30? That’s absolutely outrageous. The risk is not determined by the driver but, rather, the governing body responsible for all people’s wellbeing and safety, so I don’t know where he gets off bringing up the level of risk at the time of the incident! He should count himself lucky that someone didn’t just be present in his way while he was rushing to catch a train!
