Dan Gore hoping to catch Carrick’s eye

Once the current season is done and dusted, Manchester United are expected to concentrate all their efforts on strengthening in the middle of the park.

Casemiro is set to depart upon the expiration of his contract, and INEOS would also like to cut short Manuel Ugarte’s stay at Old Trafford.

That effectively means as many as three midfielders will be needed, with the Red Devils planning to recruit one elite defensive midfielder, one versatile ace, and a squad player.

If everything falls into place, the third bracket could even be fulfilled by someone from the academy.

Academy midfielders will look to catch Carrick’s eye

Under-18 starlet Jim Thwaites, who is set to make his senior debut against Brighton, would dearly like that opportunity.

However, he is not the only one. The Daily Mail have claimed Dan Gore, who recently returned from a successful loan spell with Rotherham in League One, also has his eyes on breaking into the United first team.

There were claims that the 21-year-old might be sold after his failed loan spell with Port Vale. But his League One stint seems to have changed INEOS’ minds.

They are yet to decide on his future, and have plans of including him in the pre-season squad and Dan Gore will want to impress Michael Carrick when he gets the chance.

Last chance for Dan Gore to make it at United

“Daniel Gore, who made his first-team debut in 2023, impressed out on loan this season in League One with Rotherham United.

“Since returning to Carrington following the end of the EFL regular season, Gore has had the chance to train with the first team and make an impression on Carrick and his coaching staff.

“Gore, who is under contract until 2028 after signing a new deal before heading to Rotherham, remains highly rated at Carrington and no decision on his future has yet been made.

“The 21-year-old is expected to get an opportunity to play a part in pre-season – which begins before the conclusion of the World Cup – where he hopes to make a claim for involvement in a midfield department that is on the cusp of finding itself in major flux.”

Dan Gore has the quality, but time is running out

Former manager Erik ten Hag was a fan and had handed him his United debut. It will be interesting to see if he can impress Carrick before the start of the new campaign.

Dan Gore can play all across the midfield, but excels as a central midfielder, a role currently occupied by Kobbie Mainoo. He possesses incredible technical qualities, as evidenced by the calibre of teams interested in him, but might struggle physically.

He is 21 already, and this summer might be his last shot at making it at The Theatre of Dreams.
