Manchester United came back from a goal down to secure a deserved 2-1 win against Atletico Madrid in their third pre-season game of the summer on Saturday.
It was the Spanish giants who took the lead early in the first half through Arnau Ortiz, but the Red Devils did not allow that setback to linger in their minds.
From that moment onwards, United started controlling the game and hardly allowed any space and time to Atletico.
Despite creating chances galore, United failed to make it count in the first half. But they returned fired up in the second half, and overturned the deficit within 30 minutes.
Shea Lacey stole the show
Bryan Mbeumo grabbed a brace, which will do his confidence a world of good. But the player that stole the show was Shea Lacey.
It was the 19-year-old who won the penalty for the 20-time English league champions with his quick feet inside the box.
Throughout the game, the England Under-20 international looked a threat, whether it be down the middle or on the right flank.
Michael Carrick kept his faith in the Carrington wonderkid following his goal against Rosenborg last time out by allowing him to start as the attacking midfielder.
Shea Lacey deserves regular minutes next season
From clever flicks around the corner, to impeccable close ball control and sharp passing between the lines, the Liverpool-born attacker showed he is ready to deputise for Bruno Fernandes if needed.
United will be competing on four fronts this season, and the head coach will need versatile players capable of playing in multiple positions.
With Mason Mount seemingly set to continue in the deeper midfield role, Shea Lacey has emerged as an alternative to the Portuguese superstar. Not to mention, his exploits down the right make him another option out wide for Carrick as well.
It will be interesting to see where Shea Lacey slots in once all the heavy hitters are back in training. One thing is for sure: the wonderkid has shown that he is ready for the first team and that he belongs at this level.
