An unexpected turn has emerged in Manchester United’s pursuit of Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, a fresh report has detailed.

Senesi interest

Senesi is out of contract at Bournemouth at the end of the season and it’s believed there is currently a scramble to snap him up as a free agent. United have been named as an interested party in the player.

While United are prioritising reinforcements in the middle of the park, other areas of the pitch could also come into play, especially with a return to the Champions League increasingly looking likely.

It is becoming ever clearer that United may be forced to address their options in the defensive department, with Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt proving they can’t be relied upon to consistently stay fit during the course of an entire season.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United have been keeping tabs on Senesi, but they’re not the only ones. He has also been strongly linked to Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. It has been said that Senesi is eager to agree terms with a new club before the current campaign comes to a close.

The report noted that Chelsea had dropped out of the race for the Argentina international and now, The i Paper reveal that United are also no longer pursuing him.

Senesi to United transfer update

According to The i Paper, Liverpool are currently viewed as Senesi’s “most likely destination.”

The newspaper adds, “Chelsea and Manchester United had been keeping tabs on Senesi, but The i Paper has been told neither are currently planning to make a move.”

“United are looking to bolster their backline, though sources added Senesi does not fit the age profile or type of defender they are looking for.”

United are understood to be far more inclined to make a move for Nottingham Forest’s Murillo.

Back to Senesi, an England stay is a more probable outcome for him, with Juventus and Roma turning down the opportunity to sign him. Aston Villa and Everton are also lurking around the 28-year-old.

Senesi’s wage demands could rule out more suitors.
