The clock is ticking, with Manchester United having 24 hours to secure the signature of a left-back before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Luke Shaw’s display against Ipswich Town served as a reminder of why Michael Carrick is desperate for reinforcements.

INEOS could have saved a lot of money by promoting academy graduate Harry Amass as Shaw’s backup, but the Red Devils do not feel the 19-year-old is ready for the step up in quality.

The young full-back starred for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship last season, and the expectation was that United would utilise him this season.

Multiple Championship teams vying for Harry Amass

That does not seem to be the case, but at least talks of a permanent exit are slowly dying down.

There is widespread interest from the Championship, but Burnley have been ruled out of the race.

Sky Sports have now revealed that West Ham United, Norwich and Birmingham are all eyeing the London-born starlet.

“Amass is attracting interest from numerous EFL clubs, including West Ham, Norwich and Birmingham, after an impressive loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday last season.

United need to find a replacement should Harry Amass leave

“The left-back had also featured for Michael Carrick’s side in pre-season but has been told his best chance of first-team football is away from Old Trafford.

“Amass was not included in Manchester United’s under-21 squad earlier today against Leicester City.”

The United No.41 had joined Norwich in January, but his loan spell was cut short due to injury. As for the Hammers, United should make it difficult for the Championship side given their conduct during negotiations for Mateus Fernandes.

Should Harry Amass depart, it makes it even more necessary to sign a left-back, especially as Diego Leon is also expected to leave temporarily.
