Manchester United were on the lookout for a versatile attacking option in the summer to replace Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee.
The Mancunian seemed destined to be joining Barcelona after he helped them to the La Liga title during his loan spell last season.
However, the Catalan giants ended up not triggering his buy option, and Michael Carrick subsequently offered him an olive branch.
The England international returned to Old Trafford and impressed against Ipswich Town last week.
Pedro Neto was on United’s radar
As for the Dutchman, despite interest from Everton, Fiorentina, and Juventus, he ended up staying and the head coach has confirmed that the former Bologna ace still has a role to play in this campaign.
If either had left, INEOS would have looked to sign a winger and a backup striker, and Pedro Neto would have fit the bill.
Interestingly, TEAMtalk have revealed that the Portuguese ace was on the Red Devils’ radar, along with a whole host of other Premier League bigwigs.
However, the Chelsea ace was desperate to stay at Stamford Bridge and impress Xabi Alonso, so he opted to remain with the Blues.
Chelsea ace opted not to push for an exit
“Pedro Neto did not push to leave Chelsea during the summer transfer window, with TEAMtalk understanding that the winger remains committed to the club and is keen to prove he can become a key player under new head coach Xabi Alonso.
“Neto was aware of speculation linking him with a host of Premier League clubs, including tentative interest from the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City.
“However, sources stress he never agitated for a move away from Stamford Bridge or tried to seek a way out amid another major summer overhaul at Chelsea.”
Last season, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers ace netted 10 goals in all competitions and registered as many assists. He already has one goal in the Premier League this term.
United did the right thing
However, his inconsistent play has not endeared him to many, and United could have done a lot better than the Portugal international.
It was absolutely the right call from INEOS not to push for a move for Pedro Neto in the summer.
