Manchester United’s transfer business over the summer was underwhelming, to say the least.
Not only did Jason Wilcox and his team fail to address glaring issues in defence and attack, but they also struggled to sell players effectively, unlike Chelsea and Manchester City.
United wanted to offload both Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee and bring in a new versatile attacker, but the pair remain at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils would also have liked to raise funds through the sales of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, but the best they could manage was loan deals for the unwanted goalkeepers.
Trabzonspor want to sign Andre Onana on permanent deal
Andre Onana was first loaned out to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan in the summer of 2025.
The former Inter Milan shot-stopper, who joined United in a £47 million deal including add-ons, enjoyed a promising stint in Turkey after a disastrous spell in England.
However, his solid performances in the Super Lig were not enough for Trabzonspor to turn his loan into a permanent transfer. This summer, the 30-year-old rejoined the side, which also features Mo Salah, on another season-long loan, without any option to buy.
With two clean sheets in six league appearances, Onana has once again made a strong impression in Turkey, and now there is interest in extending his stay.
Meeting between all parties expected soon
According to Türkiye, Trabzonspor’s management want to make Onana’s stay permanent, with president Ertuğrul Doğan leading their pursuit.
Onana still has a contract until 2028 at United, but he has no future at the club. As such, INEOS are more than willing to part ways with him on a permanent basis.
It is understood United have set a €10 million (£8.5 million) asking price.
However, Trabzonspor find the fee and Onana’s salary, thought to be €5.5 million a year plus bonuses, high, and want the Premier League giants and the player to agree to lower figures.
The report adds Onana will not pose a problem and is prepared to sign a five-year contract.
Trabzonspor’s management are reportedly expected to meet with both the player’s representatives and United “as soon as possible” to resolve his future.
