Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko pulled out of the Slovenia squad due to a shin injury.
The same issue kept Sesko sidelined for United’s final games last season, and he also missed the draw with Fulham before the international break.
Apart from injury issues, Sesko has struggled to make the number nine position his own, with Carrick often starting Matheus Cunha ahead of him. Amid the uncertainty in England, the former RB Leipzig man has attracted interest from Italy.
Manchester United striker on Juventus’ radar
Manchester United agreed a deal worth £73.7 million with RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko last summer.
Newcastle United were also keen on Sesko and were reportedly willing to offer more lucrative terms to secure his signature, but he had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford. Ultimately, the Magpies settled for another Bundesliga forward, Nick Woltemade.
After a disastrous maiden season at Newcastle, Woltemade now finds himself at Juventus on a season-long loan, but the Old Lady have reportedly already decided to look elsewhere for a long-term solution.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the hunt for a new striker in Turin will resume in the summer.
It is understood Juventus will monitor the situations of Sesko at United and Florian Balogun at Monaco.
Sunderland’s Dutch striker Brian Brobbey, who has also impressed the Red Devils, is another name on Juve’s radar.
Our take on Benjamin Sesko’s future
Sesko is yet to cement his place in United’s starting line-up, but he has shown flashes of brilliance coming off the bench.
United are unlikely to give up on the promising 23-year-old anytime soon. He scored 11 goals and registered an assist in the Premier League last term.
Multiple reports suggested over the summer that INEOS’s plan was to replace Joshua Zirkzee with an experienced striker, and that is unlikely to change next campaign.
As such, Juventus would have a better shot at getting their hands on Zirkzee than Sesko.
