Manchester United Women’s captain Maya Le Tissier sat down and spoke with the club’s media about life at the club at the moment.
Start
The Red Devils made a poor start under Eva Olid, losing their opening two matches of the season to London City Lionesses and Chelsea.
Nonetheless, a 1-1 draw at Arsenal proved to be the spark that turned their season around, with the team winning six consecutive matches since then.
United now face a daunting task on Sunday evening as they take on defending WSL champions Manchester City at home.
Maya Le Tissier has been ever-present in the team all season, as she always is, and she spoke about the start to the season.
Durability
The captain has played in an incredible 145 consecutive matches for the club since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and is now closing in on the milestone of 150 appearances.
Discussing this remarkable run, she stated, “I’ve always done the same thing. I like to make sure my body’s ready and in a good position, whether it’s gym or anything, all the boring stuff like that. I feel like I look after myself and I just love playing football.”
She also added, “some of my family are like: ‘Oh, why don’t you just rest this one?’ But I’m never ever going to put myself in the position where [I say] like: ‘Can you rest me?’ I never would ever say that. I love playing football, I love playing games.”
Le Tissier explained further, “I always want to make myself available and I feel like if I can lead by example that way, then that’s what I like to do.”
Commenting on more aspects that help her stay available, she explained, “we’re very lucky here. We’ve got a great nutritionist, so I’m always fuelled for the games. [We] recover after the games as well. So, I feel like that’s looked after for us and I make sure I always chip into that.”
Nonetheless, there is always time for a treat, as she explained, “I love my food as well – it’s toast at the minute, toast with Nutella and banana!”
United and Le Tissier will aim to make it seven wins in a row on Sunday night against their rivals, City.
