Crushing setback for Man United as hugely devastating Benjamin Sesko update emerges

A significantly concerning injury update has been issued on Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko.

Transfer failure

During the summer, United failed to sign a striker in favour of bolstering their midfield department after finishing third and securing Champions League football.

United secured the services of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba from Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively.

Despite clear evidence that the Red Devils needed a striker, owing to Sesko’s fitness struggles and the uncertainty surrounding Joshua Zirkzee’s future, club bosses turned down the chance to acquire a striker.

Zirkzee ended up staying and unsurprisingly, is struggling to have an impact this season as United struggle both domestically and in Europe. Meanwhile, Sesko has been sidelined since mid-September with a shin injury, believed to be a recurrence of the issue that kept him out late last season and in pre-season.

Michael Carrick recently indicated that a definitive update on Sesko was imminent as United wanted to be thorough with their assessments.

Now, Laurie Whitwell has revealed that Sesko will be out for weeks.

Sesko update

Whitwell writes for The Athletic, “Manchester United anticipate Benjamin Sesko will be out until at least January as he strives to recover fully from his shin injury.”

“The club’s medical team have been investigating the best course of treatment with specialists, and the 23-year-old is set to need more time to recover.”

“Sesko is healing well through rest, but the path to fitness is expected to take him into the New Year and he would also need time to get up to match sharpness.”

Whitwell has confirmed that Sesko is indeed dealing with the shin problem he picked up last season in the fixture against Liverpool at Old Trafford, when Ibrahima Konate forced him into the hoardings.

The Athletic further state, “It is not a chronic issue in any way, but all parties want him to be fully free when he returns so that there is next to no chance of a setback.”

United are next in action on Saturday when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
