Hall was arguably one of the finest left-backs in the Premier League last season. BBC pundit Danny Murphy did not call him a “Terrific player” for nothing; he was that good.

Yet, despite performing so well in the final months of the 2025-26 season, he surprisingly did not play much. When he did feature, Newcastle forced him to play out of position at right-back.

That situation was speculated to be the main reason Hall failed to make the England World Cup squad, and the 21-year-old is said to have been left frustrated with Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe as a result.

Consequently, Hall has been tipped to leave St James’ Park, with The Red Devils heavily linked.

However, with the focus at Old Trafford on midfield reinforcements, those links seem to have cooled. Still, they are unlikely to stay that way for long, not with Hall pushing hard for the move himself.

TeamTalk, in their latest coverage of United’s search for a left-back to cover Luke Shaw (who cannot play every game as he did last season), report the following on Hall:

“Sources indicate the 21-year-old sees the opportunity to work under Carrick and establish himself at United as hugely attractive.

“Hall is understood to be comfortable arriving initially to compete with Luke Shaw before eventually succeeding the England international as the club’s long-term first-choice left-back.

“That pathway is viewed as a major selling point. United’s pursuit also reflects a wider change in their squad planning, as sources can explain.”

We have been made to believe that INEOS are prioritising players who actively want to join their project.

Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, top targets, did not share that desire and were never pursued.

Man United given reasons to act

Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, meanwhile, expressed their wish to sign for United, and they duly got their moves.

Now, with Hall, another Premier League-proven talent, clearly desperate to join, there is nothing stopping the 20-time English champions from making that move, especially given reports that he is Carrick’s first-choice defensive target this summer.

Ultimately, Hall and Shaw could yet form a terrific partnership at left-back, and with his signature, Manchester United would have their left-back position secured for years to come.

Deal done

Earlier this morning, news broke that United were in advanced talks to complete the signing of Tielemans from Villa.

Since his Leicester City days and into his current spell at Villa, Tielemans has cemented his reputation as one of the Premier League’s premier midfielders, earning plaudits for his defensive discipline and technical prowess.

It was stated that Tielemans was the subject of interest from other parties but he made it clear that he only wanted to join United.

Michael Carrick’s side turned their attention to the Belgian after opting out of a deal for Ederson. United struck an agreement with Atalanta last month but a medical for the player was postponed until after Brazil’s involvement in the World Cup.

It was on Friday that Fabrizio Romano revealed that United will no longer be going ahead with the move. Ederson has since left the UK and has the option to sign a new contract with Atalanta.

Romano has also confirmed that United have a full agreement in place with Villa for Tielemans. Villa were keen on keeping him but United triggered his £35m release clause, rendering the Birmingham outfit powerless.

Tielemans’s medical is scheduled to happen in the next 24 hours.

Brilliant stats

As United work to finalise the switch, Statman Dave has revealed that the 29-year-old was among the best in the Premier League for certain metrics last season.

From this, it’s clear to see that he is a well-rounded and well-balanced player who will have no trouble slotting into life at Old Trafford.

Even more exciting is that he could partner Andrey Santos, who won 67.8% of his ground duels in the Premier League last season. This represents the best rate of any midfielder in the competition.

Manchester United have turned down approaches from a host of clubs, including Premier League rivals Aston Villa, for Mason Mount as Michael Carrick has big plans for the 27-year-old midfielder next season, according to a new report.

Long Line Of Suitors

Alongside Aston Villa, TEAMtalk claims Manchester United have “knocked back” enquiries for Mount from two other English clubs, Fulham and Newcastle United.

There is also interest from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, while two Serie A heavyweights – Inter Milan and Napoli – have both “explored the possibility of a deal” as well.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person last week claimed AC Milan had also made advances after appointing Ruben Amorim, who is a huge fan of the Englishman following his time at Old Trafford.

Well-placed sources indicate these teams have “checked on [Mount’s] availability in recent weeks”, only to be met with a firm response that he is “not available for transfer.”

Despite a torrid run of injuries and inconsistent form since arriving in M16 from Chelsea for £55 million in 2023, there is said to be “no appetite” to see him depart – with Carrick eyeing a new role for the Portsmouth native moving forward.

New Role Under Carrick

Having largely played as a No.10 or out wide throughout his career, United signed Mount – at the request of then-manager Erik ten Hag – to play in central midfield alongside Casemiro.

And while the bold experiment ultimately cost the mad Dutch scientist his job, Carrick is set to run the test again in his first full campaign as head coach, though this may be a decision forced upon him as much by circumstance as by will.

In the final game of last season – the 3-0 win away to Brighton & Hove Albion – Carrick deployed Mount in a double pivot next to Kobbie Mainoo. The result was an impressive performance from Mount, showcasing the skillset which has made him a favourite under each of his managers, at club and international level.

“Carrick remains a huge admirer of the midfielder and believes there is still a top-class player waiting to emerge once he is able to enjoy an uninterrupted run of fitness. The Man Utd boss values Mount’s intelligence, tactical flexibility and work ethic, while the midfielder also remains a hugely popular figure within the dressing room,” TEAMtalk reveals.

Carrick intends to utilise Mount in this deeper position next season, given his favoured role as No.10 will be taken by Bruno Fernandes until the day the Portuguese talisman decides he no longer wants it. If it is successful, it would prove a genius move by the head coach to add another option to a depleted unit.

But there is a sense United’s failure to land their leading targets in midfield, such as Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes and Aurelien Tchouameni, could be forcing Carrick’s hand to find solutions internally.

However, United are set to seal two new additions in the form of Andrey Santos – signed from Chelsea for £50 million – and Youri Tielemans, with a £35m agreement reached with Aston Villa, offering much more optimism over INEOS’s midfield rebuild this summer.

Final Thoughts

It is hard to look at the £55m deal to bring Mount to Old Trafford as anything other than an expensive error, particularly when his £250,000 a week wage packet is factored in. But he remains a positive influence in the dressing room, and a player with the versatility and intelligence to function as a Swiss Army knife for Carrick, even if he is yet to show his sharpness on a consistent basis in a red shirt.

Youri Tielemans was only interested in joining Manchester United this summer, as being a Red Devil has been a childhood dream for the Aston Villa midfielder – a fact proven by the big-money moves he turned down elsewhere.

United strike out of nowhere

In the increasingly transparent transfer market, there are few deals that catch fans and reporters alike by surprise – but the £35 million capture of Tielemans is certainly one.

Having agreed to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50 million last week, after a similar £39 million arrangement was struck with Atalanta for Ederson, Manchester United were expected to be welcoming two new Brazilians to Old Trafford.

But in an explosive twist, INEOS pulled the plug on their pursuit of Ederson after a failed medical, while quickly pivoting towards Tielemans after it emerged the Belgium international had a £35 million release clause in his contract at Villa Park.

The Villans did not want to lose their 29-year-old maestro, even going as far as to offer the Europa League winner improved terms in the hope of fending off his suitors by removing the clause. But Unai Emery’s side were powerless to stop United striking a deal after they received the green light from the player, who is understood to be excited to play under Michael Carrick.

The former Leicester City star is expected to travel to Carrington to complete a medical tomorrow and seal a deal which has come out of nowhere, even though the Sint-Pieters-Leeuw native has been dreaming of it since he was a child.

Theatre of Dreams

Fabrizio Romano reveals Manchester United’s hierarchy have been working on the move “behind the scenes” over the weekend after identifying Tielemans as their new “top target”.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian transfer expert states, “Youri Tielemans has said yes to all the contract conditions offered by Manchester United. [He] is excited by the possibility to play at Old Trafford, it was a dream for him to be a Man United player since he was a kid, so everything is in place.”

David Ornstein claims there was “interest from elsewhere” in the Belgian, though he rebuffed this in favour of United. This has been expanded on by talkSPORT reporter Ben Jacobs, who says there were a number of Saudi Pro League clubs “keen” on signing him.

A move to the Middle East would have been far more lucrative than one to M16. But Tielemans only had eyes for the Theatre of Dreams, which he “informed” United of once Belgium’s World Cup campaign came to an end on Friday evening with a 2-1 defeat to Spain in Los Angeles. A costly mistake by Senne Lammens proved decisive.

It marked an impressive tournament as captain of Rudi Garcia’s side, who share the same ‘Red Devils’ nickname as United. He scored a brace, including a last-minute penalty, in the pulsating 3-2 comeback win over Senegal in the round of 32, after recording three goals and two assists in the qualifying campaign.

Tielemans was forced to miss the quarter-final loss to Spain with a hamstring injury. It is not serious, however, and he is expected to complete the medical without any issue – which makes a refreshing change for new midfielders at Old Trafford.

Deal sealed

Last week, news broke that United and Chelsea reached a deal for the transfer of Santos to Old Trafford.

Having missed out on Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, United were forced to cast a wider net and their search led them to Santos.

The Brazilian is said to be desperate for regular playing time, which was far from guaranteed at Chelsea, especially after Moises Caicedo inked a new deal to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

United will pay the Blues an initial £48m for Santos, with an additional £2m in what are described as “achievable’ add-ons.”

Xabi Alonso’s side have also negotiated a 10% sell-on clause. Santos was cleared for his medical, which he passed. He then put pen to paper on his contract.

Earlier today, a leaked picture surfaced on social media showing Santos signing his United terms. It’s understood that the 22-year-old will wear the number 17 shirt at United.

United have published a video of Santos saying, “To be honest, since I was young, I dreamed of the moment, you know?”

He added, “I’m here to bring energy, to compete, to win the ball, drive the team forward and give everything for this club.”

Kone interest

United are ramping up their pursuit of midfield reinforcements after missing out on Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

Last week, the club also pulled out of a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson, who is believed to have failed his medical after a club-to-club agreement was struck last month. Atalanta remain adamant that Ederson is 100% fit and are even prepared to offer him a new deal after the transfer to United collapsed.

The Red Devils are on the brink of announcing the arrival of Andrey Santos from Chelsea but they are keen on at least one more midfielder and possibly two.

Over the past few days, Kone has emerged as a leading candidate for the club. A strong, aggressive and technically secure operator, Kone has impressed for France in the World Cup. He produced a masterclass in the 2-0 win over Morocco, helping the nation advance to the semi-finals against Spain.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are considering an offer for Kone. Roma are said to want £47m to sanction his sale.

In addition to United, Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old. Now, Gasperini has admitted that Roma may be forced to let Kone go in an effort to balance the books.

Gasperini’s revelation

Gasperini said about the United target, “Koné did very well, especially in the first half of the season. He was a bit sluggish in the second half, and perhaps that’s why he fared better at the World Cup.”

“However, he managed to earn a starting spot for France, and that shows his quality. Will he stay? I think these Financial Fair Play conditions vary from team to team; they’re not precise.”

Aurelien Tchouameni then emerged as the dream signing after United missed out on the trio, but he has opted to stay at Real Madrid, agreeing a new deal in a clear snub to the Red Devils’ advances.

Manu Kone a top priority now

Missing out on Tchouameni, however, steered INEOS towards a “better Tchouameni”: Manu Kone.

Kone provides a team with what Tchouameni offers, if not more. That much has been obvious at the World Cup, where Tchouameni’s absence has not been felt thanks to the AS Roma midfielder’s brilliant performances.

With the 25-year-old heavily involved at the World Cup, however, striking a deal for his services is tricky at the moment.

Still, with personal terms unlikely to be an issue, it has already been suggested that Roma may consider offers around £43 million, with the midfielder’s sale not ruled out.

While the 20-time English champions wait for the right time to strike, however, an interesting revelation has emerged.

Atletico Madrid are also trying to sign Kone but are, fortunately, nowhere near striking a deal.

Bid rejected

As per Corriere dello Sport, “Atletico Madrid has made determined attempts in recent weeks, engaging in discussions with both the player and Roma. However, their attempt was dashed by the wall erected by Trigoria. Forty million? Too little.”

The report goes on to explain, “Buoyed by the Frenchman’s performances on the world stage, they have set a precise price: sixty million euros, no less.”

Atletico Madrid may have failed, but their bravery in sending an opening bid should still set alarm bells ringing at Old Trafford, as they could well return with a better offer.

Time to act

INEOS had better make their move and beat the competition, because given the World Cup performances Kone keeps producing, the race for him could turn into a fierce bidding war if United wait too long.

A tempo-setter, Kone excels at slowing down or speeding up the game, shielding the ball under pressure, and safely passing it out to teammates; he could prove United’s most important acquisition yet if they can land him.

Dead in the water

Having agreed a £39 million fee with Atalanta at the beginning of June, Ederson looked set to become the first signing under Michael Carrick, with the 44-year-old coach said to have approved the Brazilian as a target.

The 27-year-old midfielder had rebuffed interest from Atletico Madrid and top clubs in Italy to prioritise a switch to Old Trafford, considering it a ‘dream move’. However, a late call-up to the Brazil squad by Carlo Ancelotti, to join Matheus Cunha and Casemiro, after an injury to right-back Wesley, delayed things.

The expectation was for the Sao Paulo native to complete a second medical once his tournament in North America had come to an end. However, United were understood to have raised concerns during his first medical in June, identifying a potential long-term knee injury which the club wanted to re-examine.

Ederson travelled to England last week to complete the tests, only for United’s medical staff to fail him. This was then communicated to Atalanta, with the transfer collapsing.

The Italian club firmly reject the view that their player has any physical issues, and are willing to open talks over a new five-year deal to reflect that. His current contract has one year remaining, which was a large part of United’s initial interest.

United could reignite a move

In the tale that keeps on giving, the Manchester Evening News claims the Red Devils remain “open” to signing Ederson. They will “seek to renegotiate the deal they’ve agreed with Atalanta” in an effort to get it over the line.

“While sources in Italy have claimed the deal is off and that Atalanta are ready to offer Ederson a new five-year deal, United haven’t ruled out going ahead with the signing,” the report states.

David Ornstein confirms United maintain interest in Ederson, despite the “decision to abandon a move” and the joint capture of Chelsea dynamo Andrey Santos and Aston Villa maestro Youri Tielemans, which was confirmed earlier today.

United could “look to revisit the situation later in the transfer window — efforts to strengthen Michael Carrick’s midfield go beyond Tielemans and the recent acquisition of Andrey Santos from Chelsea — although it is unclear if Atalanta and Ederson would do the same,” The Athletic journalist reveals.

Simon Stone (BBC) says the deal has been “scrapped”, despite United officials briefing that no final decision has been made. This mirrors the view of Italian transfer experts Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio, though Stone corroborates Ornstein’s assessment it could be reignited.

“Sources say the transfer could be resurrected later in the summer depending how the window develops for United, although the club would not be prepared to sanction any move at the previously agreed terms,” the BBC reporter states.

“While club officials say they are sympathetic to the player, they feel they have to act in the best interests of United. It is being stressed the move for Santos, whose arrival is due to be announced early this week, was not triggered by the issues with Ederson.”

Final Thoughts

With Santos and Tielemans both versatile midfielders capable of playing deep or in more box-to-box roles, Ederson is a less attractive proposition for Manchester United now. While his physicality and work rate are still needed to bring more balance to Carrick’s engine room, a more natural No.6 with speed, size and stamina in abundance should be the priority moving forward – and the club have already agreed terms with a perfect candidate.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein broke the news this morning that United are in “advanced talks” with Aston Villa to sign the Belgian, and this was followed shortly afterwards by a trademark “Here we go!” from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Tielemans is a name that has emerged unexpectedly as United try to rebuild a decimated midfield this season, following the departure of Casemiro and the ACL injury sustained by Manuel Ugarte during the World Cup. In an exclusive interview with The Peoples Person hosted by NetBet Sport, Pallister said it was not the kind of signing he had expected.

Top targets slipping through the net

“I think we’ve all felt a bit underwhelmed,” he said. “We’re talking about targets like [Elliot] Anderson and [Sandro] Tonali at the end of the season, and we were all licking our lips at them.”

“Especially Tonali – he’s, he’s got the Manchester United stamp all over him. Anderson, we’ve seen what he’s doing at the World Cup at the moment. He’s been that ball-winning, hungry midfielder that we maybe needed as well. They’ve slipped through the net.”

“Tielemans, yeah, he’s an exciting talent, but do I think he’s right out the top drawer? Probably not. So yeah, I think a lot of people will be underwhelmed.”

Financial constraints

We asked Pallister why he thinks Manchester United had gone for Tielemans at this stage.

“If these are the players that Michael’s asking for, and the club are going out and getting them, then fair play,” the former England defender said. “I don’t know whether it’s anything to do with the [financial] fair play system, whether it’s to do with the wage structure thing that they’ve got there now. But I don’t think the signings that we’ve mentioned so far, that we’re interested in, have blown Man United fans away.”

Good, but not next level

Pallister said Tielemans has “moments of magic” and can “get fans off their seat”, but suggested the club needed more. “The kid’s a talented player, but when we’ve been linked with these other kind of players that can really help take us to the next step, then we haven’t been able to bring them in,” he explained.

“A lot of people will see that as — not a step back, but not the marquee signing that we’re looking for.”

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford’s struggles at the FIFA World Cup could have a bearing on his future this summer. The Englishman is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and INEOS are looking to cash in on him to fund a busy transfer window.

Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he registered 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 games to help them win LaLiga and the Supercopa de Espana. The Premier League giants expected the Catalans to trigger the €30 million purchase option in the player’s contract, but that has not happened. Instead, Barcelona have signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United to strengthen their attack.

Marcus Rashford Stats: 2025/26 Season

There has been interest in the 28 year old from the Premier League as well, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly considering a move. Recent reports suggest that United are willing to reintegrate the player into their pre-season squad, but a sale remains a lucrative prospect given his academy status.

The Red Devils were hoping that a strong World Cup campaign could ignite a bidding war for Rashford this summer. Unfortunately, things have not gone according to plan.

Rashford’s 2026 World Cup so far

Rashford came off the bench against Croatia in the opening group stage game to score England’s final goal in the 4-2 win. He had a seven-minute cameo against Ghana in the following game, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Englishman started the final group stage game against Panama but failed to make much of an impression as the Three Lions secured a 2-0 win. Rashford, however, retained his place in the starting XI against Congo in the Round of 32, but was hooked in the 61st minute after failing to make an impact.

His replacement, Gordon, set up two goals to help England secure a comeback 2-1 win. Barcelona’s new signing has retained his place in the starting XI in the wins over Mexico in the Round of 16 and Norway in the quarter-finals.

Rashford, meanwhile, has been an unused substitute in the last two games. Former England defender Stuart Pearce has now provided his opinion on the matter.

Pearce questions Tuchel’s use of United forward

Speaking to talkSPORT, Pearce questioned Tuchel’s decision not to call on Rashford even when England were chasing games. He said: “I found it quite strange that when we were chasing a game and looking for inspiration [there was] no sign of Marcus Rashford.”

“He didn’t feature in Mexico either. So we got two games just gone by where you’re looking for a bit of cutting edge and someone who might get us a goal with a bit of pace on the counter-attack, that type of thing.”
