Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has lavished praise on academy star JJ Gabriel following his senior debut against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, 1 August. The French defender started the game and helped the Red Devils secure a 2-1 comeback win in pre-season, courtesy of a Bryan Mbeumo brace.

Meanwhile, Gabriel etched his name into United folklore by becoming the youngest player to feature for the first team in the club’s history. The young Englishman came on in the 82nd minute to warm applause from the United supporters at the stadium, while countless others were certainly following him from home.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDu2PQwyr3" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4350px; aspect-ratio: 4350/3107;" ></smartframe-embed>

Gabriel won the Jimmy Murphy Player of the Year and the Under-18 Premier League Player of the Year awards last season following an outstanding run with the Under-18 team. The 15 year old registered 26 goals and four assists in 29 appearances, justifying the hype around him among fans.

The youngster had trained with the first team on several occasions last season but could not make his debut due to regulatory constraints. His inclusion in this summer’s pre-season squad, as such, generated a buzz among fans.

Gabriel’s much-anticipated United debut

Gabriel was not in the squad for United’s first pre-season game, the 1-0 defeat to Wrexham. The player joined training ahead of the second game against Rosenborg and was included in the matchday squad as well.

However, Michael Carrick opted against bringing him on as the Red Devils ran riot at the Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim, Norway, picking up a 5-0 win. If fans were disappointed not to catch a glimpse of the starlet, their prayers were answered this weekend.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimjEXSJDfo" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4969px; aspect-ratio: 4969/3313;" ></smartframe-embed>

Gabriel had six touches of the ball in his cameo against Atletico Madrid, attempted one shot, won one duel, and was also fouled once. It was clear that United have a gem on their hands, and Yoro has now offered some advice to the youngster.

Yoro offers advice to Gabriel

Speaking after the game, as cited by The Mirror, Yoro was also full of praise for Gabriel. He said: “He’s a really good player. Still really young, still a lot to learn, a lot to improve. He’s really humble, still working, so I’m happy for him to get his first minutes, so I hope for him it’s going to continue like that.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neim6oF0PH2q" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4304px; aspect-ratio: 4304/2872;" ></smartframe-embed>

Yoro joined United as a teenager in 2024 in a reported £52 million deal, becoming the most expensive player below the age of 18 in history. The Frenchman drew parallels with his own experiences as he advised Gabriel, adding: “I can see myself.”

“[I would say] stay humble, just want to work, and this is what we need in the team, even for the young guys. They’re all doing really well, and JJ is one of them, so I hope he’s going to learn a lot, continue like that, improve, yeah. But he’s really good, a good player.”

A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person suggests that United have stepped up their efforts to ensure that Gabriel remains at Old Trafford for the near future.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDzXTrQB45" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4472px; aspect-ratio: 4472/3194;" ></smartframe-embed>

Final Thoughts

United will have to be cautious with Gabriel and ensure he is afforded time and ample guidance to realise his true potential. While fans can expect to see the youngster feature next season, they will have to be patient with him and refrain from putting too much pressure on his young shoulders.

If Manchester United are to act on their interest in Iliman Ndiaye, they have now been told the key figures that could secure the transfer.

Not long ago, reports emerged that Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal had identified Ndiaye as a top target.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="1970e2615a4bf4d8c7ab2416a1cc8d79" image-id="ARCH126133_00074227" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 7188px; aspect-ratio: 7188/5132;" ></smartframe-embed>

Yet while the Middle Eastern football powerhouse was prepared to spend heavily, an interesting revelation soon followed.

Iliman Ndiaye turns down Al Hilal

Ndiaye’s father came out and revealed that there was no chance his son would move to the Middle East, explaining why such a switch was never under consideration.

This confirmation that Ndiaye had no interest in signing for Al Hilal certainly boosted United’s transfer hopes.

However, while United fans waited to see whether INEOS would act on their interest, it has now emerged that they will not.

Manchester United decide on Everton raid

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOB9VuuZgfp" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4417px; aspect-ratio: 4417/2945;" ></smartframe-embed>

As per Football Insider, “Manchester United are now all but out of the race to sign Everton star Iliman Ndiaye.”

They explain, “United wouldn’t want to have to pay £75million for the Senegal star.”

Interest from Saudi Pro League scuppers Manchester United’s transfer chance

Al Hilal’s entry into this transfer race was, without doubt, bad news for Ndiaye’s suitors.

Their willingness to spend heavily will surely have influenced Everton’s stance, and now the Toffees will demand a premium to let their attacking maverick go.

Ndiaye remains a unique talent, yet United may still question whether a marquee move for his services makes sense.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBRQCR1sX9" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 7623px; aspect-ratio: 7623/5082;" ></smartframe-embed>

Given his hefty asking price, along with the options already at the club in Matheus Cunha and Marcus Rashford, it is easy to understand why INEOS are stepping back from this pursuit.

The Peoples Person Reliability Assessment

Overall credibility: 5/10
Why?

Multiple outlets have reported on United’s interest in the player

United may struggle financially to pull off the deal

Reported by an outlet that is more speculative than factual

TPP view

We believe that, if given the chance to land Iliman Ndiaye at a decent fee, Manchester United will pounce on it. It is unlikely, however, that they will go as high as £75million

Watching Manchester United in pre-season, and looking at the players brought in, it is clear why Elliot Anderson was a dodged bullet.

The post Elliot Anderson: The bullet Manchester United dodged appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

This pre-season has given us a real test of what Michael Carrick’s ball is all about, clarifying why, in missing out on Elliot Anderson, the Red Devils may have dodged a bullet.

Manchester United endured a shaky start to the 2024-25 season, and by midseason, qualification for Champions League football even looked unlikely.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="1ffbae35d432d0d71911ca2a0b209fbb" image-id="prsibwBFScYh" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3585px; aspect-ratio: 3585/2390;" ></smartframe-embed>

However, a bold decision from INEOS to sack Ruben Amorim and salvage United’s season changed everything.

Carrick the difference maker

The United chiefs turned to Carrick to steady the ship, and he did far more than that. The former midfielder restored winning habits, and he had the team fighting and playing with real zeal and passion.

Ultimately, under Carrick, United looked like a proper team, a far cry from what Amorim had been working with.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDUiBdU8yK" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2674px; aspect-ratio: 2674/1967;" ></smartframe-embed>

Given the Red Devils’ resurgence, handing Carrick the job felt like the right call. Yet earning the job was only the first step; he then had to sell his ideas to the squad.

Looking at United’s transfer activity and pre-season performance, it is now clear how Carrick wants this team to play.

Carrick wants this United side to move away from relying on transitional football. Instead, his aim is for United to control games, dominate possession, and dictate matches.

Consequently, he is prioritising technicians over pure athletic profiles, and this is evident in United’s midfield rebuild.

Pure technicians over athletic midfielders

Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos are both technically gifted, and their arrivals will give the midfield far greater composure, technical quality, and control in possession.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="ARCH796049_00356319" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3140px; aspect-ratio: 3140/2090;" ></smartframe-embed>

Moreover, while the pair are yet to play together, a midfield pivot of Santos and Mason Mount this pre-season, built entirely from pure technicians, has hinted at the new direction the team is taking.

Carrick’s priority, then, is pure technicians and fluid control, rather than the pure physicality and athleticism Amorim once demanded of his engine room.

Of which, while there is a suggestion that the third midfield signing should bring a destroyer profile or an athletic box-to-box presence, this may not be the route INEOS take.

Instead, United may well sign another technician, which raises the question: while many fans demanded the signing of Elliot Anderson, was he ever truly the type of midfielder this team needed?

Elliot Anderson: Manchester United dodged a bullet

Yes, Anderson’s elite defensive work rate, duel-winning ability, and constant movement are excellent qualities. Yet they suit teams chasing games, ones not necessarily keen on exerting control.

For a possession-based side, however, like United want to be, such qualities remain secondary to the composure, intelligent progression, and tempo-dictating control needed. Anderson is clearly not a “technical controller,” and this was evident given how little influence he and Declan Rice carried for England at the World Cup.

Indeed, Thomas Tuchel opted to capitalise on physicality rather than turn to technicians such as Kobbie Mainoo, who might otherwise have offered control and dominance.

Carrick, though, is showing a bold new approach with his squad. He wants technical controllers, and splashing over £100million on a player not suited to that vision would have been a significant blunder, one that could have genuinely held this United team back.

Manchester United have plans to strengthen out wide, and a unique opportunity could be up for grabs if reports from Italy are to be believed.

Saturday saw Michael Carrick drop Joshua Zirkzee from the starting line-up in favour of playing Bryan Mbeumo as the striker.

The Cameroonian did not disappoint, grabbing a brace, and with Benjamin Sesko set to return to action, the Dutchman‘s minutes will reduce even further.

If INEOS fail to sign a backup striker once the Netherlands international leaves, the United head coach could be forced to play Mbeumo as the false nine in more and more games.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimRF34U9vX" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2296px; aspect-ratio: 2296/1533;" ></smartframe-embed>

Joshua Zirkzee close to leaving

That would leave Amad and Shea Lacey as the only options on the right. On the left, Carrick currently has no specialist options.

Patrick Dorgu is continuing to excel there, while Matheus Cunha can also do a job out wide. A lot depends on Marcus Rashford’s future and whether Tynan Thompson can impress when given the chance.

A versatile wideman would be the ideal recruit, and the Red Devils have Francisco Conceicao on their radar.

The Juventus winger is primarily a right-winger, but can do a job out wide on the left and even down the middle.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimk6s6oAcf" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3659px; aspect-ratio: 3659/2441;" ></smartframe-embed>

Francisco Conceicao has emerged as an option

The Bianconeri have slapped a £43 million price tag on the Portuguese attacker’s head, but United could acquire him for a lot less.

Juve are keen to sign Joshua Zirkzee, and a swap deal opportunity is on the cards. According to Sport Mediaset, the Serie A giants are open to a player-plus-cash deal.

Such an arrangement would see United land Conceicao for £25 million, with the United forward heading to Turin.

“Francisco Conceição could leave Juventus after just two seasons. Having arrived in the summer of 2024 on loan from Porto, the Portuguese was bought by the Bianconeri last year for €30 million, effectively becoming a key player in the project, first under Tudor and then under Spalletti.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9" image-id="fwuQ5ZBCDAGH" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2029px; aspect-ratio: 2029/3046;" ></smartframe-embed>

Swap deal arrangement

“At the moment, the team most interested in the Portuguese winger is the Red Devils, who are looking for a winger to bolster Michael Carrick’s attack.

“Juventus value Conceição between €50 and €60 million, a figure that could be lowered with the inclusion of a counterpart the Bianconeri appreciate. Obviously, we’re talking about Joshua Zirkzee, who is no longer central to the Manchester club’s project and would be happy to return to Italy.

“Manchester United could offer €30 million plus Zirkzee’s fee (also valued at the same price) to land the Portuguese winger.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9" image-id="fwuQ6mDQNs4g" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4096px; aspect-ratio: 4096/2731;" ></smartframe-embed>

The entire swap deal arrangement is being overseen by super-agent Jorge Mendes. United could do a lot better than the Portugal international if they really desire a winger.

On paper, a direct sale would benefit United a lot more. Things will become clearer in the coming weeks.

The Peoples Person Reliability Assessment

Overall credibility: 5/10
Why?

Reported by an outlet with an average track record when it comes to Juventus news
A permanent sale makes more sense from United’s perspective
Multiple outlets have reported on United’s interest in the Juventus winger

TPP view
We believe Manchester United have Francisco Conceicao on their list of targets, but he is well down the pecking order. And INEOS are more open to Joshua Zirkzee’s permanent departure than a swap deal.

Manchester United impressed at the Strawberry Arena on Saturday, picking up a deserved 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in their third pre-season game of the summer.

Shea Lacey impressed in the No.10 position, while Michael Carrick will be pleased with the impact Bryan Mbeumo had while leading the line on his own.

The head coach decided to drop Joshua Zirkzee, the hero from the Rosenborg game, in favour of deploying the Cameroonian as the striker.

After a lukewarm end to the 2025/26 campaign, all eyes are on the former Brentford ace to see if he can recapture the form he exhibited in the first half of the previous campaign.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimFC0Ut0Pi" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2338px; aspect-ratio: 2338/3506;" ></smartframe-embed>

Bryan Mbeumo on his preferred position

He certainly responded to his critics in style, grabbing a brace against the Champions League semi-finalists.

After being utilised down the right, Amad’s return saw Bryan Mbeumo occupy the No.9 position. The 26-year-old’s versatility will be a major asset for Carrick next season.

MUTV caught up with the Cameroon international after the game, and the forward was asked to reveal his preferred position.

He explained that he loves to play in either role, but has more experience of playing out wide from his days as a Bee.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neim7bsfBKHH" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5230px; aspect-ratio: 5230/3487;" ></smartframe-embed>

Scoring makes Bryan Mbeumo happy

“I’m fortunate to be able to play both positions, so it’s difficult to choose. I’ve had some really good performances on the right wing and also as a striker.

“I think I’m more experienced on the wing, so I’d probably say that. But I enjoy playing as a striker as well.”

Opening his account after three pre-season games also pleased the Avallon-born attacker.

“For an attacking player, it’s always a great feeling to score for the team and the fans. It’s also really good to provide assists. Seeing everyone happy — the supporters and my teammates — makes it a special feeling.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neim5zdhq8As" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4296px; aspect-ratio: 4296/2865;" ></smartframe-embed>

Pre-season going according to plan

Victory over Rosenborg was not seen as a major achievement by critics, but the dominance shown by the Red Devils against Diego Simeone’s men will have sent out a clear message.

Bryan Mbeumo revealed that all the hard work being put in during training is paying off and that the head coach’s plan worked to perfection against the Spanish giants.

“We had a clear plan before the game, and everyone stuck to it. That made the game really enjoyable.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimaxOxrZJ5" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3866px; aspect-ratio: 3866/2577;" ></smartframe-embed>

“We work really hard in training for games like this. The main goal is to be ready for the start of the season, and I think everyone has done an amazing job so far.”

Up next is a blockbuster tie against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. It will be interesting to see how the 20-time English league champions perform then and where the United No.19 plays.

Manchester United are exploring the possibility of signing Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, as per reports.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new left-back as they look to add much-needed width and creativity to their left flank, having failed to offload Marcus Rashford and bring in a new left winger.

As such, the focus is on an attack-minded left-back to complement the existing options.

Manchester United considering raiding Arsenal

According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Manchester United have a long-standing interest in Myles Lewis-Skelly and are aiming to see whether Arsenal would be willing to sanction the departure of their academy graduate.

Lewis-Skelly, who is capable of playing out wide and in the middle of the park, has found himself out of the team for long stretches under Mikel Arteta despite impressing in limited opportunities.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="1ffbae35d432d0d71911ca2a0b209fbb" image-id="prsivswMNoUH" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2700px; aspect-ratio: 2700/1800;" ></smartframe-embed>

The dynamic 19-year-old started the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain and is very highly rated in North London.

As such, Arsenal’s preference is to keep the Englishman, who is tied to the Emirates until 2030.

However, there is “a sense the situation could change if the champions complete an expected deal for Bruno Guimaraes and another for Vinicius Junior.”

Arsenal would have to sell to balance the books if they do sign their ambitious targets.

Manchester United pushing to sign Lewis Hall

The Independent adds that United are hopeful of a deal for Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall.

Hall is thought to be open to the prospect of a move to Old Trafford amid a tumultuous summer for Newcastle.

Hall, 21, is regarded as one of the most complete full-backs in the country and appears to be United’s priority target. Should Newcastle refuse to agree to a sale, United may accelerate their efforts to land Lewis-Skelly.

Manchester United’s patience could be about to be rewarded if reports emerging from Spain are to be believed.

The Red Devils have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to strengthen their engine room, with the Brazilian impressing during pre-season.

However, United still lack that out-and-out defensive midfielder, which explains why they were interested in Elliot Anderson.

However, the Englishman opted to move to Manchester City instead, and United have opted to wait instead of jumping in for the likes of Alex Scott and Tyler Adams.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDRp24DYed" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2456px; aspect-ratio: 2456/3438;" ></smartframe-embed>

United have been waiting for Aurelien Tchouameni

One of the reasons was because INEOS wanted to be sure that a pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni was not on the cards anymore.

The Frenchman had reportedly agreed a contract extension, even though no official update has appeared to date.

Now, with Real Madrid reportedly closing in on a deal for Rodri, Spanish outlet ESDiario has claimed that the France international could be the fall guy.

The report states that Jose Mourinho feels both Rodri and Aurelien Tchouameni have similar playing styles and that they are not compatible together.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBGRUK3cs8" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3949px; aspect-ratio: 3949/2934;" ></smartframe-embed>

Rodri’s signing could pave the way for Aurelien Tchouameni to leave

This has opened the door to an exit for the former Monaco ace, with United in the driving seat should his departure be greenlit.

“Real Madrid are very close to completing one of the most important moves of the summer transfer window. The signing of Rodri, which could be made official this weekend for a fee close to €55 million, would not only strengthen the midfield but would also have an immediate consequence: the departure of Aurélien Tchouameni.

“According to reports surrounding the transfer, José Mourinho believes that Rodri and Tchouameni are too similar in style and don’t fit the playing philosophy he wants to implement. The Portuguese manager believes that the two players are incompatible in the same squad if the goal is to build a more dynamic and balanced midfield.

“This situation accelerates the possible departure of the French international, whose future seemed headed towards a renewal until 2031. However, that contract extension was never made official and the scenario has changed completely with the emergence of Rodri in the sporting planning.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBP1Lr4AH2" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5451px; aspect-ratio: 5451/3626;" ></smartframe-embed>

United might struggle to afford Aurelien Tchouameni

“In fact, one of the coach’s priorities would be to prevent Valverde and Tchouameni from sharing a dressing room after their incident at the end of last season. In this context, Manchester United has emerged as the leading candidate to secure Tchouameni’s services.”

The only obstacle would be the 26-year-old’s wage demands and Los Blancos’ asking price. It has been relayed by The Peoples Person that United are prepared to pay up to £70 million for the Real’s No.14.

The Bernabeu outfit might ask for a lot more. An interesting month awaits United fans as they wait to see what surprises INEOS have in store before the season commences.

Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz has clarified his stance on his future amid suggestions that he could be headed to Manchester United.

Dream move

United are on the hunt for a third midfield signing after securing the services of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively.

Michael Carrick’s side are said to be considering the likes of Manu Kone (AS Roma), Alex Scott (Bournemouth), Tyler Adams (Bournemouth), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace) and Carlos Baleba (Brighton & Hove Albion), just to mention a few names.

More recently, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Luiz could come into the fray as a potential option for United.

The Brazilian has experienced a difficult spell since his transfer from Aston Villa to Juventus in 2024. His loan return to Villa for the second half of last season yielded little impact, as Unai Emery continued to favour his established midfield contingent.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimuMkoVOBM" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4316px; aspect-ratio: 4316/2877;" ></smartframe-embed>

The report claimed that Luiz considers United a “dream” destination as he eyes a return to the Premier League.

However, the 28-year-old has made it clear that his desire is to stay at Juventus and attempt to turn things around.

Luiz clarifies transfer stance

He spoke to Tuttomercatoweb after Juventus’ 2-0 friendly win over OGC Nice. Luiz opened the scoring in the contest.

“The training camp went very well,” he remarked. “I’m in good shape and happy with the opportunity I’ve been given. I hope to show it on the pitch.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="1ffbae35d432d0d71911ca2a0b209fbb" image-id="prsiufi7pOAR" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5400px; aspect-ratio: 5400/3596;" ></smartframe-embed>

“Today I managed to score, and that’s very important for me because this is where I want to be.”

The midfielder added, “I’m really happy with his opinion, which is obviously the most important thing for me. The work I’ve done over the last three weeks is helping me understand things and allowing me to grow in training and in matches.”

“I’m becoming convinced that I can stay at this club.”

“Obviously, it’s what I want. Two years ago I was bought, but I didn’t have many opportunities to play. Now I’m getting them again, and that’s what I want.”

United are next in action next weekend when they face Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United are set to open discussions with Newcastle over a move for Lewis Hall, who is seen as the dream replacement for Luke Shaw.

The post Lewis Hall: United planning imminent talks with Newcastle appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

Manchester United appear focused on signing a new left-back to provide backup to Luke Shaw ahead of the new campaign.

The Englishman started every Premier League game last season, but given his injury record, INEOS are right to be wary.

This explains their interest in Newcastle’s Lewis Hall. A pursuit had slowed down as the Red Devils were prioritising their midfield, but efforts to sign the 21-year-old seem to be ramping up.

According to Sully, a reliable source of United news, INEOS are planning club-to-club talks with the Magpies over the left-back.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="c78749ece7fd074ea5dc1889e7c53f0f" image-id="esmeG2bELHr1" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4836px; aspect-ratio: 4836/6770;" ></smartframe-embed>

United to open talks with Newcastle for Lewis Hall

The co-owners have already spoken to the England international, and have gauged his interest in sealing a move to Old Trafford.

That has given the 20-time English league champions the confidence to begin discussions with Newcastle, but a move will be far from easy.

The team from St James’ Park are planning contract extension talks, while they will demand a premium to let Lewis Hall leave.

Add Chelsea’s interest into the mix, and things get even more complicated for the Manchester giants. Things will become clearer once the Newcastle ace talks with incoming boss Matthias Jaissle about his role in the squad.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="ARCH599308_00290849" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5351px; aspect-ratio: 5351/3567;" ></smartframe-embed>

Lewis Hall remains keen on a move

“United has planned talks with Hall’s current club, Newcastle, regarding a potential transfer this summer.

“Sources state that contact with the 21-year-old’s camp have already taken place, and he is the clear first-choice target at left back.

“Although Newcastle’s recent change of head coach, with Eddie Howe departing and Matthias Jaissle set to be installed in the position, has led fans to feel a transfer could be a possibility, United acknowledge it’s a difficult deal to pull off financially.”

United need Lewis Hall, especially if Harry Amass leaves

With rumours circulating of Harry Amass’ imminent departure, a pursuit of Lewis Hall becomes a no-brainer.

Whether United can afford an extensive outlay considering they still need another midfielder and a backup striker this summer remains to be seen.

The Peoples Person Reliability Assessment

Overall credibility: 8/10
Why?

TPP view
We believe Manchester United consider Lewis Hall as their dream left-back target. But given INEOS still need another midfielder, funds might be the major obstacle to closing the deal.

Manchester United claimed their second win of pre-season on Saturday as the Red Devils came back from a goal down to clinch a 2-1 victory against Atletico Madrid at the Strawberry Arena.

Amad, who returned to pre-season training a couple of days ago, was reinstated into the starting line-up by Michael Carrick. The Ivorian impressed alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Shea Lacey up top.

However, despite travelling to Sweden, there was no place in the XI for Altay Bayindir, as Tom Heaton started in goal.

In fact, the 40-year-old stayed in goal for the full 90 minutes, with the Turkiye international watching on from the sidelines.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neim1tZOKwIB" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4596px; aspect-ratio: 4596/3064;" ></smartframe-embed>

Altay Bayindir desperate to leave United

It has been previously relayed by The Peoples Person that the 28-year-old is desperate to leave Old Trafford in search of regular minutes.

Saturday was a sobering reminder to the former Fenerbahce ace that he does not figure in Carrick’s plans, especially now that Karl Darlow has been brought in.

Most rumours have linked the Turkish keeper with a return to his homeland with Besiktas among the clubs pushing to sign him.

Now, Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail has claimed that Celta Vigo are interested in the United shot-stopper, but only on loan.

Celta Vigo could seal a loan deal

“Man Utd sources confirm interest from Celta Vigo in taking keeper Altay Bayindir on loan this season but say the deal isn’t done yet.

“Bayindir’s on the bench against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm today with Tom Heaton starting in goal,” the reporter wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

It was expected that the 20-time English league champions would push for a permanent exit considering the goalie’s contract expires in 2027.

But United do have the option of triggering a one-year extension to avoid losing him on a free, which could mean they say yes to the proposal. Multiple outlets have started reporting the same, which means the story has legs.
