Manchester United’s summer signing Andrey Santos has been speaking extensively to the club’s media, offering his new fans an insight into his personality.
Santos was interviewed by the club’s television channel, MUTV, about his move as he was being driven to Carrington for his first day.
Start in football
Giving an insight into his first experiences with football, he stated, “I started playing football when I was four years old in Brazil, on the streets. I grew up watching players and trying to play like them. Now I’m here in Manchester, and I’m so happy to be here.”
Santos also explained that he is keen to meet many of his new teammates, including Matheus Cunha.
Excitement
He commented, “Yeah, I’m so excited to meet Cunha. I already sent him a message, and he told me, ‘if you need anything, just ask me.’ He also said, ‘Welcome to the big club!’.”
The Brazilian also added, “I’m excited to play with Bruno, Kobbie, and everyone. I already watched a lot of Manchester United games because I love football. Playing with Bruno, Kobbie and the rest of the team—I’m really excited.”
He also explained that it is a positive thing to play in a team with youth, but also experience like Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire.
Santos also revealed that he would rather score than assist, but that fans would have to wait and see if he had a special celebration.
Leny Yoro
Santos also revealed that he has experience playing against one of United’s current stars, having played in France for Strasbourg.
He stated, “It’s funny because I played against Leny before—he was at Lille and then Strasbourg. He was really hard to play against. Now we’ll be teammates! He defends very well, and he’s quick. It’s hard to get past him.”
The 22-year-old also spoke about his excitement at playing at Old Trafford.
He explained, “I’ve already played there against United. After the match I sent a message to my wife saying, ‘Wow, this stadium is amazing.’ The atmosphere—everything. Now I’m here to play for Manchester United. It’s a pleasure for me and my family.”
Santos also revealed that he was enthralled watching United’s incredible 5-4 win over Olympique Lyonnais in the Europa League in 2025.
