Manchester United are keen on signing a Serie A central defender this summer, as per reports.
Ayden Heaven is enjoying a promising pre-season at the heart of United’s defence while Leny Yoro impressed as a right-back against Atletico Madrid.
If Michael Carrick continues to maximise Yoro’s skill set by deploying him out wide, United may find themselves stretched thin in central defence.
Multiple offers for Jhon Lucumi
According to Quotidiano Sportivo (via Sport Witness), Manchester United are among the clubs pushing to sign Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi.
The 6’2″ Colombian, who is known for his imposing presence and positional awareness, was the subject of intense interest from Sunderland last year. However, Bologna managed to keep hold of their star player.
Lucumi has yet to extend his contract, which is set to run out in 2027. As such, Bologna may be forced to sanction his exit this summer. It is claimed there have been several offers for the South American.
Juventus have reportedly put forward €15m plus €3m in bonuses and have seen their offer rejected. Their improved offer of €18m received the same response.
It is understood that Como’s bigger offer was more appealing to Bologna, but Lucumi is not thought to be too keen on joining Cesc Fabregas’ side.
Nottingham Forest have allegedly offered €20m plus €5m in bonuses. However, the Colombian international is not interested in joining them either.
Manchester United make move for Jhon Lucumi
Juventus seem to be his preferred destination, but the Old Lady are watching the situation unfold rather than meeting Bologna’s asking price, understood to be €28m, including bonuses.
According to the report, Manchester United have now “made a move” for the Bologna lynchpin.
Furthermore, the 28-year-old would be interested in moving to Old Trafford, as he is only keen on joining what have been described as “big clubs” by the outlet.
Should he receive a suitable proposal, Lucumi will allegedly not wait for Juve for too long.
However, United face competition from Chelsea, who have made contact for Lucumi after agreeing to offload Trevoh Chalobah to Como.
The Peoples Person Reliability Assessment
Overall credibility: 5/10
Why?
✅ United’s interest in Jhon Lucumi has been reported before
✅ The player’s price tag and pedigree make him an appealing option
⚠️ Claim yet to be backed by a reliable source in England
TPP view
We believe there is some truth to the idea United are interested in Lucumi, but suggestion of a move appears premature.
