As the new season approaches, one thing is starting to look likely: Marcus Rashford is set to make his return to Manchester United’s match-day squad.
Barcelona had him on a season-long loan last season, and he impressed for them with fourteen goals and fourteen assists in 49 appearances.

Despite this, Barcelona opted against signing him permanently, leaving many wondering why, especially given a tempting £26 million option to turn his loan into a permanent deal, with Rashford even willing to make personal sacrifices to get the move done.
With Barcelona out of the picture, other top European sides were expected to approach United over his services, yet none have done so.
No one has stepped forward to pounce on a £40 million deal to land Rashford, and even a price drop to £30 million has failed to invite transfer inquiries.
Now, next week, Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez are expected to be back in training as the Red Devils take their pre-season camp to Ireland following the Paris Saint-Germain game.
And while Rashford returns to first-team involvement eighteen months after being excluded and shipped out on loan to Aston Villa and then Barcelona, TeamTalk report what Michael Carrick has planned for the attacker.
What Carrick has planned for Rashford
According to the outlet, the United technical bench believes Rashford “can become a central figure in the new-look Red Devils.”
They add that the plan in place will be “focused on the opportunity to reintegrate a player they believe still possesses the quality to make a major impact under the new regime,” and that keeping him “could even reduce the urgency to recruit another forward before the transfer window closes.”
TeamTalk further reveals that Carrick and his technical bench are “genuinely excited” at the prospect of working with the 28-year-old.
Not everyone will share that excitement over Rashford’s return, but if he can sustain his Barcelona form, he stands to be a genuine asset for this team.
His ability to operate as a reliable left-winger, while also offering a striking option when needed, would be a significant boost to Carrick’s tactics; no wonder there is excitement behind the scenes.
