York City reportedly made a strong push to beat other suitors to the signature of Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore, but they failed.
Next career step
With a first-team breakthrough still his primary objective, Gore is expected to embark on another loan spell to continue his development away from Old Trafford.
The Carrington academy graduate first went out on loan to Port Vale in 2024 but the stint was cut short after just one appearance due to a devastating injury.
A shoulder issue, which first surfaced during his time with the senior squad, then ruled him out for the opening half of the 2024/25 campaign.
Another loan deal to Rotherham followed, which was also disrupted by fitness issues. But the Millers had seemingly seen enough and were kind enough to bring him back for the 2025/26 season. This second spell was significantly better than the first.
Gore made 34 League One appearances, contributing three assists. He also featured in United’s pre-season campaign.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Gore is poised to head out on loan to Luton Town before the close of the summer window. It’s understood that Gore has a fan in Jack Wilshere, who is convinced the young midfielder can make a significant contribution to their quest for promotion from League One.
United still hold Gore in high regard, with his position set to be reviewed next summer when he comes back from Luton.
But he could have permanently parted ways with United, a new report has claimed.
York’s bid
According to Peter O’Rourke, York City strongly pursued Gore.
The Football Insider journalist wrote on X, “Luton Town are set to sign Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore on loan.”
“York City made an ambitious move to sign Gore in a permanent deal. Several other League One and League Two clubs were also chasing Gore.”

Meanwhile, United are next in action on Sunday when they host Ipswich Town.
