Manchester United were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, 6 September. The Red Devils initially took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the 46th minute, and were on their way to a memorable win before the hosts struck through Tyrique George in the 83rd minute.

Benjamin Sesko scored in the 88th minute and appeared to have won the game for the hosts. However, Ainsley Maitland-Niles found the back of the net in the sixth minute of injury time to ruin the party for United and maintain the Toffees’ unbeaten start to the season.

While Kobbie Mainoo also had a good game, one player who failed to have an impact was Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese maestro scored a hat-trick against Ipswich Town last weekend but was rather subdued against Everton.

The 31-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, adding to further speculation over his future. A fresh update has now provided an insight into his team-mates’ stance on his situation.

United squad believe Fernandes deserves pay hike

According to The Sun, United players believe Fernandes should be handed a bumper new contract. A source with knowledge of the situation told the British news outlet ahead of Sunday’s game: “The players know Bruno is absolutely vital if they want to have success.”

“They all want him to sign a new deal and think execs should make him feel loved and give him a contract which reflects how important he is.”

“He should be the top earner because he is the most important player in the dressing room.”

The Sun reports that Fernandes earns £300,000 per week and is in talks to become United’s highest-paid star.

Squad happy with Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona and was expected to make his stay at Camp Nou permanent this summer. Unfortunately, the Catalans opted against triggering a purchase option, leaving the Englishman in limbo.

Rashford has since been reintegrated into the squad over the summer and even took part in pre-season. The 28 year old came off the bench in the 2-0 defeat to Hull City on opening day, before starting the 5-2 win over Ipswich Town last weekend.

Rashford retained his place in the starting XI against Everton and was very impressive at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The 28 year old also rekindled his old partnership with Luke Shaw on the left-wing, which will also please fans.

The source told The Sun that the United squad are impressed with Marcus Rashford’s performances, adding: “The lads weren’t sure what to expect from Marcus. But he’s impressed them with his attitude and hard work. They also think he has got better.”

Final Thoughts

A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that the United skipper is keen to commit his future at Old Trafford. INEOS, as such, should get a deal across the line as soon as possible.
