Manchester United failed to address their lack of a backup at left-back despite Michael Carrick’s explicit instructions.
The squad still has faith in Luke Shaw, but the Englishman’s poor injury record and his form have raised massive questions ahead of a season in which the club will compete on four fronts.
The only good thing to come out of deadline day was the fact that Harry Amass did not depart despite interest in his services from numerous EFL clubs.
The 19-year-old has featured for the United first team on seven occasions, but for now, the Red Devils are planning to have him continue with the Under-21s.

This seems like the wrong call, both for the “amazing” young full-back’s development and for INEOS.
Should the co-owners want to move the Carrington graduate on, he will likely fetch peanuts due to his lack of first-team involvement.
The United head coach stated that he has cover in the form of Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui, and Diogo Dalot, which shows that Harry Amass is not actively in his plans.
That has been corroborated by The Manchester Evening News, who have claimed that some at United still do not feel he is ready for the step up and there is scepticism as to whether he will earn much minutes under Carrick.
United’s thoughts on Harry Amass revealed
“There was deadline day loan interest in the 19-year-old left-back as well, but not a deal that United felt would necessarily suit.
“They were conscious of the issues in that position, although there is still scepticism as to whether Amass will feature much for the first team this season.
“Despite an encouraging pre-season, Amass hasn’t made a matchday squad in the Premier League this season and still has to convince some people he has a long-term future at the club.”
The England Under-19 international was spotted training with the first team ahead of the Everton clash and it is now on the left-back to impress Carrick and change his mind moving forward.
