Manchester United’s senior side may not have started the season in strong form, but this is not the case for the academy.
Exciting form
The under-21s and under-18s both have some very exciting talent coming through at the moment, with the likes of Shea Lacey regularly being involved in the first team squad.
Fifteen-year-old JJ Gabriel has also consistently made waves at youth level and looks destined to be part of a first team squad and maybe even make his senior debut this season. His talent was underlined once again with his hat-trick in the UEFA Youth League last week.
The under-21s have made a strong start to the season, as they have won two games from two in Premier League 2.
They beat Ipswich 5-0 and Leicester City 4-1 in dominant displays.
Not only were the wins important, but scoring nine goals in just two games highlights the electric nature of the side.
The Red Devils are currently fifth in the table, one point off the top. Nonetheless, should they win their game in hand, they will go to the summit of the league.
New fixture
United were unable to play the Manchester derby at youth level this weekend, as the game was called off.
As a result, the club’s official website has announced, “Manchester United have confirmed a fixture update for our Premier League 2 schedule. The Reds’ away derby with City, due to be played on Saturday, was called off.”
The site continues, “it has been rearranged for Monday 5 April 2027 and will get under way at 19:00 BST.”
The game will take place at the City Football Academy in an intriguing tie for the youth team.
United’s under-21s will next be in action on Friday evening when they face Brentford away from home.
