Manchester United Women have begun to turn their season around after a poor start.
Season to date
Two losses against London City Lionesses and Chelsea had fans concerned, but they have turned a corner of late.
This turnaround started with an impressive 1-1 draw away to Arsenal, before they thrashed Sheffield United 10-1 in the Players’ Cup.
They built on this by securing a much-needed 2-1 victory over West Ham United in the league.
Tonight, they will face Durham in their second match of the Players’ Cup before a mouth-watering match-up against rivals Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.
International call ups
After the match at the weekend, the international break will once again be upon us, and United have had two players called up for international duty.
The club’s official website reports, “Manchester United Women duo Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park have been included in Sarina Wiegman’s latest England squad.”
The English face a two-legged playoff versus Greece for a place in the next round of the 2027 World Cup playoffs.
“England start with a trip to the Pankritio Stadium in Crete for the first leg on 9 October, before the reverse fixture back at the King Power Stadium in Leicester on 13 October.”
Le Tissier has 14 caps for England and was part of the squad that won Euro 2025.
Park has 26 appearances for the national side and has scored five goals.
Ella Toone omission
In spite of a good start to the season, including a goal versus Sheffield United, Ella Toone has not been called up.
The Guardian report that, “Ella Toone and Chloe Kelly have been dropped from England’s squad because of their performance levels by Sarina Wiegman.”
