Manchester United are inching ever closer to completing a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson.
While fans might have expected a more high-profile arrival to replace the departing Casemiro, the reality is that the Serie A midfielder represents more of a market opportunity.
In all likelihood, the Brazilian will be a direct replacement for Manuel Ugarte, who INEOS are keen to offload once the transfer window opens.
Ederson has suitors both in Italy and abroad, but he has eyes only for the Red Devils. While done deal talks are premature, United seem genuinely interested this summer.
Face-to-face talks for Ederson
According to the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, the 20-time English league champions have held face-to-face talks with the Bergamo-based outfit over a fee.
In addition, personal terms with the 26-year-old have also been agreed. The only thing stopping the deal from materialising is United’s green light.
“We know that Ederson is waiting for Manchester United,” the Italian explained on his YouTube channel.
“There is an agreement already in place between Ederson and Manchester United in terms of personal terms, personal details.
Green light left to come
“Ederson will be more than happy to join Manchester United. Ederson is giving priority to Manchester United.
“United had face-to-face conversations with Atalanta, with a mission in Italy in the recent days to line up the deal, to prepare the deal, and then it’s obviously going to be on Manchester United to decide whether they want to proceed, give the green light or not.”
A deal for West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes is considered independent of a deal for the Brazil international.
The Old Trafford side also have Sporting CP skipper Morten Hjulmand on their radar, while their primary targets include Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Carlos Baleba.
