Young Manchester United striker Ethan Wheatley has decided where he will play his football this season.

An exciting attacking prospect, it is unfortunate that Wheatley’s career has not taken off as many expected.

Loans to Walsall, Northampton Town and Bradford City have failed to kick-start his career following his fine spell in the Man United academy.

Wheatley has struggled to tap into his potential and find his goalscoring touch after returning from his Bradford loan in the summer without a goal in 12 league games; United had to decide what was best for him.

Wheatley agrees loan move to Championship side

Sending him out on loan seemed to be the right call, and now it is clear where the 20-year-old will play his football this season.

As per Football Insider: “Ethan Wheatley has agreed to join Lincoln City on a season-long loan.”

The report adds that “[Wheatley] will now undergo a medical before putting pen to paper to finalise his move to the Championship club after an agreement has been reached between all parties.”

One would hope this move finally gets the best out of Wheatley.

Able to drop deep and link play, while also excelling with his clinical finishing, he could prove a real asset if the Imps get to utilise him and help their promotion cause in the Championship.

That said, Wheatley may not be the only United star sent out on loan as transfer deadline day fast approaches.

INEOS’ to-do list

Harry Amass, Chido Obi, Joshua Zirkzee and Dan Gore are also linked with loan exits.

Meanwhile, INEOS are expected to crown their summer business with a left-back signing, with Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde and Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly continuing to be linked.

We believe Wheatley’s move to Lincoln is going through unless another club pulls off a sensational last-minute hijack.
