From senior players calling out INEOS top officials and the coaching staff, things have taken quite a turn at Manchester United over the past week.

Lisandro Martinez was the first to launch an astonishing tirade at the club’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, while Bruno Fernandes laid into Michael Carrick following the humbling away defeat to Como.

Now, things are not too rosy between Wilcox and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell, with The Sun claiming INEOS chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe has picked a side, much to the disappointment of the German.

The former RB Leipzig technical director feels he has been marginalised at Old Trafford, which explains his reduced matchday appearances at the stadium.

Vivell unhappy with INEOS hierarchy

The 39-year-old meets agents and scouts as part of his job profile, but it is Wilcox who has the final say on all recruitment aspects, including players and the coaching staff.

As has been previously relayed by The Peoples Person, Christopher Vivell has been pushing for former Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, while Wilcox wants someone who is Premier League-proven.

As seen from Vivell’s recruitment of Benjamin Sesko last season, bringing in talent from outside the English top flight can work. However, Sir Jim seems to trust Wilcox more.

Sir Jim favours Wilcox over Vivell

“United director of recruitment Christopher Vivell feels he is being marginalised at the club amid their spiral this season.

“Vivell has not been as visible at United’s games at Old Trafford this season, having been a regular in the directors’ box in the past two years.

“United empowered Vivell last summer when the club reduced their scouting operation, which he oversees. But United director of football Jason Wilcox is ultimately responsible for recruitment at playing and coaching level.”

This explains exactly why rumours are afoot that Vivell could be on his way out soon. Whether that comes to pass remains to be seen.

However, one thing is for certain: Wilcox has not been great at his job since INEOS took charge, and he deserves equal brickbats as head coach Michael Carrick.

It is obvious that Glazers and SJR cannot be pushed out and neither will they change their attitude. So the best that Man Utd can hope for is to get a manager who can squeeze the best out of the squad at his disposal. Carrick has shown that he is not capable of that. So he has to go to give the club some hope under these toxic circumstances. For Utd that is the only hope that by some luck we can land such a manager.
