Manchester United’s primary focus on deadline day is trying to bring in a new left-back.

Luke Shaw‘s injury record and his recent poor form make it an obvious position that requires urgent attention.

Harry Amass’ impending departure makes it even more obvious for INEOS to try and sign a full-back before the summer window slams shut.

Lewis Hall was the Red Devils’ dream target, but Newcastle have refused to budge from their stance. For now, the plan is to return for the Magpies ace next summer.

Deadline day move for Jorge Salinas

That effectively means the 20-time English league champions are reluctant to spend big this year, which has meant moves for David Raum and Alejandro Balde have collapsed.

Jorge Salinas is another name on United’s radar, with the 19-year-old having a release clause in the region of £13 million in his current contract.

Atletico Madrid were in pole position, but a move to the Metropolitano Stadium has stalled, which has given United a glimmer of hope.

According to journalist Chris Winterburn, United are racing against time to try and agree an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

Why a deal looks difficult

Given the Spain Under-19 international’s meagre asking price, Racing Santander might push for a permanent deal instead.

That makes a deal even more difficult, but the Old Trafford giants have not given up yet.

“Jorge Salinas emerging as a loan with an option to buy possibility for Manchester United today,” the reporter wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Very unlikely this gets done, but the club haven’t totally given up yet. Atletico deal has stalled over last week,” he added.

What makes Jorge Salinas an even more exciting prospect is the fact that he can double up as a centre-back, something United are looking for.
