Manchester United Under-21s opened their season with a convincing 5-0 victory over Ipswich Town Under-21s.

These are our player ratings for the match. You can read a detailed match report here.

(A score of six is around average.)

Ratings

Cameron Byrne-Hughes – 6.5 – Wasn’t called into action until the 75th minute, when he made a decent save.

Jaydan Kamason – 9 – Fully back to his 2024/25 form after injuries last season, he made the right flank his own. On the rare occasions Ipswich ventured forward, he easily dispossessed the winger, who could not gain a yard of space on him. In attack, he bombed up and down the wing for the full 90 minutes and combined well with Musa. He capped off a superb performance with an even better goal.

Albert Mills – 7 – Calm and composed at the back, he was never troubled and quickly laid the ball forward as United pinned Ipswich back.

Dan Armer – 8 – A match perfectly suited to his game, he had all the time in the world to pick out his passes and delivered some lovely diagonal balls over the top. He also got forward for a corner and headed home to put his name on the scoresheet.

Harry Amass – 8.5 – Simply far too good for this level, he spent as much time in midfield as he did at left-back. Coming inside, he combined with the midfield to control the match and smothered Ipswich in the central areas, which never gave them a chance to get hold of the ball.

Tyler Fletcher – 8.5 – A perfect execution of counter-pressing in the midfield, he mopped up everything and did not give the Ipswich players a chance as he dispossessed them before they even gained control.

Jack Fletcher – 9 – Pulling the strings in midfield, he showed what he can do when he has the confidence after garnering criticism in the first team. He scored the second goal, which he opened up with an exquisite first touch that took the entire Ipswich backline out of the game. He then provided the assist for Gabriel’s goal with a line-splitting pass, which he picked out throughout the 90 minutes, and should have come away with more assists.

Victor Musa – 8 – Put United in the lead within two minutes, and his directness had Ipswich very uncomfortable throughout the opening stages. He impressed most with his movement as he interchanged with Kamason and Ibragimov.

JJ Gabriel – 9 – Made his competitive U21s debut and already looked too good for the level. Despite being much smaller than the opposition defenders, it rarely mattered as they simply could not get near him, and when they did, they could only foul him. He consistently found space in the right channel and attacked the byline, which led to him picking up two assists. He then scored one himself with an outrageous scooped finish.

Tynan Thompson – 7 – A decent showing on his competitive debut for United, he looked to have the beating of his man and should have had a goal when Gabriel played him through in the first half. Understandably, he did not have the chemistry with his teammates, which made it harder to get involved in a lot of the quick interchanging movement, and mostly came alive as an individual.

Amir Ibragimov – 8 – A Wayne Rooney-esque performance as the number nine, he did it all but score a goal on the night. From making runs in behind the defenders to dropping deep and playing the through balls himself, he covered every blade of grass and was even putting in tackles at the halfway line. His through ball started the move for the fourth goal, and he was unlucky not to have earned a penalty.

Substitutes

Reece Munro – 6.5 – After missing most of last season through injury, he slotted in well and never looked troubled.

Jim Thwaites – 7 – Put up a fight as Ipswich got physical late on, getting stuck into a couple of challenges and forced a good save from the keeper with a long-range effort.

Ashton Missin – 6.5 – His first appearance since January 2025, he looked lively off the bench and should have won a penalty.

Godwill Kukonki – 6 – Had a couple of sloppy touches on the ball, which opened space for Ipswich, but did well to recover.

Christian Orozco – 6 – Looked to be surprised by the pace of the game at times, as he looked to take his time on the ball, but he did well to maintain possession every time he realised he was under pressure.

Manchester United U21s started their season on Monday night with a home encounter at Leigh Sports Village, hosting Ipswich Town.

Adam Lawrence fielded a strong side, with a number of players yet to head out on loan after featuring in Michael Carrick’s first team squad during pre-season.

First half

United took complete control of the match straight from the opening whistle, taking an early lead with less than two minutes on the clock.

Victor Musa picked out JJ Gabriel on his U21s debut, running to the byline and then following his pass into the box to receive it back from Gabriel before firing it low into the far left corner.

The young Red Devils bombarded the Ipswich goal with a flurry of chances in the opening stages of the match and doubled the lead in just the 10th minute. Tynan Thompson fed the ball infield to Jack Fletcher, who did excellently to beat his defender with his first touch before giving the keeper the eyes and sending him the wrong way with an excellent finish.

Six minutes later, Jack Fletcher almost had his second of the match when his long-range effort whizzed just inches wide of the left post.

United had a double penalty shout in the 28th minute when Gabriel and then Amir Ibragimov were clumsily bundled over, but the referee waved away both of their protestations.

Ibragimov and Gabriel combined again just after the half-hour mark, the former playing a ball over the top to Gabriel, who laid the ball back to Jaydan Kamason, who hit the ball with such power it hit the roof of the net before the keeper could even react.

The goals were flowing for United, and Lawrence’s side added a fourth in the 38th minute. This time, Tyler Fletcher’s corner delivery was headed in at the back post by Dan Armer.

On the stroke of half-time, Ibragimov looked to take advantage of a wayward back pass by Ipswich but was struck down by Leon Elliott just as he was about to run clear through on goal. Once again, though, the referee was unwilling to give United the call.

Second half

Ipswich turned to the bench at the break with a double substitution, but it did little to change the flow of the game as United continued to dominate. The fifth goal of the night came shortly after the restart, when Gabriel produced a playful scoop over the keeper from 20 yards out.

The victory did not come completely easy for United, though; frustrations began to grow in the Ipswich side as they left late challenges on the United players.

After escaping a red card in the first half, Elliott was sent off in the 66th minute for a second yellow card in the span of two minutes. United had another penalty shout late on when Ashton Missin was hacked down inside the area, but it was not given as United ran out 5-0 winners.

It was a perfect start to the season. United now look towards next Monday when they take on Leicester City, but it could be a very different squad as players head out on loan before the transfer deadline.

Match facts

United: Byrne-Hughes, Kamason, Mills (Munro 61), Armer (Kukonki 76), Amass, T. Fletcher, J. Fletcher (Thwaites 61), Musa (Missin 61), Gabriel, Thompson, Ibragimov (Orozco 76)

Manchester United’s Jaydan Kamason has offers to leave permanently and on loan, according to reports.

The 19-year-old impressed earlier in the pre-season tour with two assists against Rosenborg.

The Daily Mail have reported that Southampton are interested in signing the right-back on a permanent transfer, while other clubs have enquired about the possibility of a loan.

“The Championship side would like the 19-year-old England youth international on a permanent transfer. Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday have shown interest in the right-back while there are clubs abroad keen to take him.”

What next for Kamason?

After impressing initially during pre-season, Kamason has dropped out of the most recent matches as Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui returned from their extended breaks after the World Cup.

Despite the interest in both permanent and temporary moves, the report suggests that United are keen to keep Kamason around Carrington until January but have not made a final decision.

But with two international right-backs at their disposal and Leny Yoro showing his versatility in the position, chances are going to be hard to come by for the academy youngster.

With 35 appearances for United’s Under-21s under his belt, Kamason is ready for the step up to senior football, and United are unlikely to be able to offer it, especially as the club have opted out of entering the U21s in the senior-level EFL Trophy and National League Cup this season.

But there will be more than just readiness to consider before sanctioning a possible loan move. Having suffered with injuries last season, Kamason missed the entirety of October before picking up another injury in February that kept him out for the rest of the season.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDlwNJYNmC" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2483px; aspect-ratio: 2483/3104;" ></smartframe-embed>

Academy standout

As one of the academy’s top performers in recent years, a permanent departure would be a strange move for United to execute at this stage.

A high-flying full-back, Kamason gets up and down the wing with contributions in both attack and defence. His directness in attack makes him a constant danger as he bursts towards the byline, and his pace has proved useful going the other way as well.

Arguably the best player for the U18s in 2024/25, the youngster was a key part of the team that finished second in the league and made it to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

It was the latter competition which saw perhaps Kamason’s best performance under the lights at the Emirates as he battled against Max Dowman. Kamason scored a late goal to take the match to extra time before Bendito Mantato scored the eventual winner.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDxdZNdNjB" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3873px; aspect-ratio: 3873/2766;" ></smartframe-embed>

A stop-start 2025/26 season due to injuries unfortunately stopped his momentum, which makes it understandable why the club may want to delay any potential loan move.

Kamason has expressed his willingness to go on loan but reiterated his intention to make it at United. “If I need a few loans or whatever, we’ll have to see, but obviously, I’m trying to get to that top level, and that’s Man United. You just have to be ambitious.”

The Peoples Person Reliability Assessment

Overall credibility: 6/10
Why?
The defender’s quality is sure to attract interest but injuries last season will make the club hesitant to a loan
The player has expressed a willingness to go on loan
Reported by a journalist without a strong Manchester United track record.

TPP view

We believe Jaydan Kamason will likely remain at United until January due to his recent injury struggles, but a loan move could be on the cards as he has reached the stage where he is ready to get first-team experience.

Despite a host of Manchester United’s academy talents being included by Michael Carrick for the pre-season tour, it has reportedly been decided that only a select few will definitely be staying at Old Trafford next season.

The Fantastic Four

The Daily Mail reveals INEOS are “to the majority” the youngsters to have featured in the friendlies against Wrexham and Rosenborg “going out on loan” next season – with four notable exceptions.

Shea Lacey – the 19-year-old wing wizard who scored a superb goal in the 5-0 rout of Rosenborg – is the first name on the list. The Merseyside native is considered one of the most technically gifted players in the club’s academy, having made his debut for the senior side last season.

Despite the presence of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad ahead of him in the growing queue on the right wing, it is a testament to Carrick and the coaching staff’s faith in Lacey that they will be counting on him this year.

It is a two-for-one deal on the next duo, with both Fletcher twins – Jack and Tyler – set to remain in M16, despite a number of clubs in Britain having expressed interest in signing them on loan. Tyler is considered the better prospect of the two, as shown by his late call-up for Scotland’s World Cup squad, but the lack of options in Carrick’s engine room means bodies are needed.

The last, but by no means least, on the list is 15-year-old wonderkid JJ Gabriel. Dubbed ‘Kid Messi’ such is his prodigious talent, United have been fending off interest from Europe’s elite for many years now. The attacker is on an unusually fast track for the first team, but he is far from a usual 15-year-old.

Gabriel is expected to make his debut for Carrick’s side during pre-season, despite not getting off the bench against Rosenborg. It is exceedingly likely this will then be followed by his official outing once the regular season begins.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDQqWpzym1" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3163px; aspect-ratio: 3163/3954;" ></smartframe-embed>

Everyone Else Is Shown The Door

The Daily Mail mentions right-back Jaydan Kamason and midfielder Jim Thwaites as two other “exciting youngsters knocking on the door” of the first team next season – but they are not on the exempt list.

Furthermore, highly rated options like Radek Vitek, Harry Amass, Dan Gore and Toby Collyer have all been “told they are unlikely to feature for United this season”. The club are open to the sales of Vitek and Amass, who has entered the final year of his contract, although loans will also be considered.

Hull City, fresh from promotion into the Premier League, are open to Collyer re-joining on another loan, while Gore is also available following his season-long switch to Rotherham last year.

“Czech keeper Vitek, who has played more minutes than anyone against Wrexham and Rosenborg, is a target for Middlesbrough and a host of other Championship clubs after starring on loan at Bristol City last season. Amass played in both games and got a goal and an assist against Rosenborg. He is valued at around £6million after spending last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich,” the report states.

“With United still in the market for a third central midfielder after paying a combined £85m to sign Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, Gore and Collyer are believed to have been told that their best hope of regular football next season will be with the Under 21s.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="e8c3ce70f1ad837bdffb21e2453272b6" image-id="XhXPzF8nVGVV" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 1627px; aspect-ratio: 1627/1302;" ></smartframe-embed>

Final Thoughts

Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) have significantly raised the appeal of selling academy players, as the transfer fee received constitutes ‘pure profit’ – which can then be used to spend vast sums on senior players, as Chelsea have done to a record-breaking level. It would be disappointing, albeit somewhat expected, for Vitek and Amass to be sold to fund the pursuit of another ‘marquee’ midfielder, for example, even if both look like they have the skillset to develop into excellent players in the long run.

Manchester United youngster Jaydan Kamason has outlined a major goal he is aiming to achieve following his stellar performance against Rosenborg.

Dazzling cameo

Kamason was introduced during the break in United’s 5-0 demolition of Rosenborg last Friday.

Playing in his preferred right-back role, he caused the opposition all sorts of problems, culminating in two assists during United’s trip to Trondheim.

His first contribution came when he ghosted into space and picked out Harry Amass with a precise delivery to the far post. Amass was there to slide in and turn it home, making it 4-0.

Well in, Harry!

— Manchester United (@ManUtd) July 24, 2026

Not long after, Kamason danced his way down the right before delivering another dangerous cross into the box, inviting Ethan Williams to apply the finish.

Ethan put the cherry on top

Enjoy the highlights from Trondheim now

— Manchester United (@ManUtd) July 24, 2026

Michael Carrick was effusive in his praise for the club’s young talent, all of whom delivered promising displays and have pushed themselves into contention as the start of the season looms.

Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, Kamason made it clear that he is eyeing a breakthrough into the United first team.

Kamason’s objective

The 19-year-old said, “It was good to get the assists, obviously, but just good to play for minutes and fitness. I could have been sharper at times, but I’m happy with the two assists.”

“Last season, I unfortunately had two injuries, but hopefully this season will be more positive. I’m just trying to stay fit now and show my ability on the pitch.”

Asked about a first-team breakthrough, he replied, “Yeah, hopefully. I’m always trying to aspire to get to that level. If I need a few loans or whatever, we’ll have to see, but obviously, I’m trying to get to that top level, and that’s Man United. You just have to be ambitious.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDxdZNdNjB" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3873px; aspect-ratio: 3873/2766;" ></smartframe-embed>

Kamason explained that he does extra work to refine his craft.

“I always do extra bits on that. Especially with the low crosses, because the low crosses are very effective. But it is just about getting into those positions. Once you get into those positions, you have the chance to get it into the box. That’s what I want. It’s just timing my movement, getting into those positions, then once I get in there, I just know what to do.”

Travis Binnion, who previously managed the Under-21s, has been promoted to Carrick’s senior staff, and Kamason believes this will be to his advantage.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDlwNJYNmC" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2483px; aspect-ratio: 2483/3104;" ></smartframe-embed>

“He’s a great link between the academy and the first team, so it is good to have him around, and hopefully he can continue to help me.”

United are next in action on Saturday when they face Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United purred in Trondheim, as they thrashed Rosenborg 5-0 on Friday in what was their second pre-season game this summer.

Michael Carrick will be delighted with what he saw, considering the Norwegian side are halfway through their normal season.

The Red Devils’ energy levels were great to see, especially compared to their dull display against Wrexham last week.

Senior stars such as Joshua Zirkzee and Andrey Santos impressed, but what truly caught the eye was the performance of two Carrington wonderkids.

Harry Amass and Jaydan Kamason stole the show

Jaydan Kamason and Harry Amass both came on at the start of the second half and instantly looked a far greater attacking threat compared to Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw.

The right-back grabbed two assists, while the left-back scored one and assisted the other. It was the FA Youth Cup winner who provided the assist for the former Watford prodigy to tap home.

Jaydan Kamason then added another assist for Ethan Williams late on in the game. As for Harry Amass, he also got an assist for Zirkzee’s brilliant goal.

Both could provide the head coach with solutions to his problems out wide.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDxdZNdNjB" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3873px; aspect-ratio: 3873/2766;" ></smartframe-embed>

Problems out wide for Carrick: Harry Amass and Jaydan Kamason to the rescue

United’s search for a left-back is well known, with INEOS not exactly trusting Shaw to stay fit next season. So far, signing Lewis Hall has not proven to be easy.

On the opposite flank, Noussair Mazraoui has been linked with a move to AC Milan, which could leave Diogo Dalot as the only specialist option.

Harry Amass shone out on loan for Sheffield Wednesday in the first half of last season, and INEOS could save a lot of money by promoting the 19-year-old to the first team squad.

The young right-back is not as far along in his development as Amass, but Kamason has shown for both United’s Under-21s and Under-18s that he is more than ready to step up if needed.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKD1fk2Obq4" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000/2344;" ></smartframe-embed>

Atletico Madrid will be the perfect test

Whether Carrick trusts them moving forward only time will tell. Both will need to keep producing against a higher level of opposition until the senior stars arrive.

United’s next game against Atletico Madrid will provide the perfect opportunity for them to strengthen their case for inclusion.

Manchester United travelled to Norway to take on Rosenborg BK in their second pre-season match of the 2026–2027 season.

The Red Devils were aiming to recover from a 1–0 defeat to Wrexham in Finland.

First half

The hosts started better and had a free kick from close range that was drilled into the wall after just five minutes.

United sprang into life after nine minutes when the ball was turned over and Joshua Zirkzee played in Bryan Mbeumo, but the Cameroonian’s effort was straight at the keeper. The Red Devils had to wait 10 more minutes before they had another chance, when Mason Mount’s shot was blocked for a corner from just outside the box.

The away side had by far their best moment after 28 minutes when Andrey Santos rolled a lovely pass into the box for Patrick Dorgu, whose effort clipped the outside of the post.

United gradually improved and got their reward after 31 minutes. Leny Yoro played the ball forward, Zirkzee turned and rolled in Shea Lacey, and the youngster cut in and bent a lovely effort into the bottom corner.

Michael Carrick’s side were in the ascendancy now, and a wonderful free kick from Mbeumo found Yoro in the box and he headed the ball off the crossbar. The hosts kept the ball a little better towards the end of the first half, but neither team could find another goal and the half-time whistle blew with United in the lead.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDdOEOTErR" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2344px; aspect-ratio: 2344/3281;" ></smartframe-embed>

Second half

United created problems for themselves when Harry Amass and Ayden Heaven lost the ball down the by-line and the Norwegians squared the ball to Aleksander Borgersen, but his effort skewed well wide.

United responded when Patrick Dorgu played in Zirkzee, who spun and shot, but his effort was blocked for a corner.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDqS4QxNE0" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2407px; aspect-ratio: 2407/1597;" ></smartframe-embed>

After 56 minutes, the hosts responded when they fired a cross wide of goal, but it was Carrick’s side who grabbed the next goal. The lively Lacey collected the ball out wide and played in Zirkzee, who rolled the ball away from the defence and then beat the keeper with a wonderful piece of skill, finishing off the move by gently placing the ball over the goal line.

Emil Konradsen Ceide responded when his powerful free kick drifted just wide of Vitek’s goal.

After 63 minutes, a corner fell to substitute Jacob Devaney, who controlled the ball well and thrashed his effort into the roof of the net.

Rosenborg had their best chance when Ceide received the ball in the box and his effort flicked the outside of the post and went out for a goal kick.

United responded right away, though, and scored a fourth with a lovely, flowing goal.

The ball was worked along the pitch and Jaydan Kamason played the ball across to his fellow full-back Harry Amass, who slid in to score.

United kept the ball well really well for the next few minutes and were rewarded with a fifth goal after 84 minutes.

Kamason again turned provider when he kept his calm and picked out Ethan Williams who tapped in from close-range.

The full time whistle blew and United will be delighted with the result and performance, especially of the youngsters once again who have given Michael Carrick something to think about.

Manchester United beat Rosenborg 4-0 in their second pre-season clash ahead of the new campaign. Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Radek Vitek 6 – Didn’t have much to do.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neim6WleHS5M" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3648px; aspect-ratio: 3648/2432;" ></smartframe-embed>

Leny Yoro 7 – A defensively resolute performance at right-back. Came close to grabbing United’s second goal with a good header but was denied by the crossbar.

En bleu pic.twitter.com/CEjbehMT5C

Harry Maguire 6 – An accomplished and experienced performance at the heart of United’s defence.

Ayden Heaven 6 – Same as Maguire. The pair formed a solid partnership, keeping Rosenborg from troubling Vitek.

Luke Shaw 6 – Did his job with minimum fuss. Betwee

Andrey Santos 7 – Caught the eye with another brilliant display in the middle of the park. Covered lots of ground and didn’t shy away from getting stuck in as part of his job to shield the defence. Instinctively almost always looked for the forward pass.

Mason Mount 6.5 – He looked sharp, with crisp passing and a cleanly executed interception to neutralise a dangerous Rosenborg counter-attack.

Shea Lacey 8 – Excellent curling finish to give United the lead.

Lovely from Lacey

Bryan Mbeumo 6 – A sight of goal early on when he was put through on goal by Zirkzee, but he couldn’t beat the goalkeeper. Excellent cross for Yoro, which should have resulted in a goal. A few sloppy touches and passes that he will be keen to cut out in the upcoming games.

Leny rises highest

We were inches away from a second goal shortly before the half-time whistle

Patrick Dorgu 5.5 – Showcased some neat touches and positive contributions in the final third, coming close to scoring only to see his effort strike the post.

Joshua Zirkzee 9 – An impressive all-round display. He teed up Mbeumo and arguably should have been credited with an assist. Held up the ball sublimely and brought those around him into play. Showed some fine bits of skill to rip the Rosenborg defence apart and double the lead for United.

What. A. Goal.

Substitutes

Harry Amass 8 – Played a big role in Zirkzee’s goal only to then get on the score sheet himself with an easy tap-in.

From right-back to left-back

Jaydan Kamason 8 – Delivered a sensational low-driven cross for Amass’ goal. Some lovely work down his flank again to assist Williams’ goal. Two assists!

Dan Armer 6 – Picked up where Maguire and Heaven left off, ensuring United secured the clean sheet in Trondheim.

Jacob Devaney 8 – Showed great instincts to react when the ball fell to him and to bury it, making it 3-0 and putting the game to bed.

Tyler Fletcher 5 – OK.

Dan Gore 6 – Clean and tidy on the ball. Never looked at all fazed by the opposition.

Jack Fletcher 5 – Decent.

Toby Collyer 6 – Buzzing in midfield, winning the ball back and keeping possession ticking.

Chido Obi 5 – Succeeded in occupying the opposition’s backline, though he was given precious little to attack.

Ethan Williams 8 – Another good finish to make it 5-0 for United.

Will Murdock – 7.5 – Made two big saves late on in the match to ensure Palace did not mount a comeback and displayed some good sweeping qualities in the first half.

Jaydan Kamason – 8 – He looked back to his best from before the long injury lay-off. Going forward, he delivered a few good crosses, most notably picking out Jack Fletcher in the box, which could have easily resulted in an assist. Most impressive on the night was his defensive showing. A rock at the back, he came out on top in every one-v-one, using pace, strength, and great positioning effectively on a number of occasions to keep Palace out.

Sonny Aljofree – 7.5 – Very solid at the back, he handled himself well in a very physical match and made his experience in senior football clear to see. At the other end, he also put a header into a dangerous area in the first half that should have been attacked better.

Dan Armer – 7.5 – His quick reactions in the opposition box put United in the lead when he headed home the rebound from a Lacey shot in the first half. He was very comfortable on the ball, bringing the play forward with both passing and dribbling.

Godwill Kukonki – 7.5 – Rarely troubled at the back and continues to impress with his lung-busting runs down the left wing, one of which led to Obi’s goal.

Tyler Fletcher – 7.5 – A complete midfield performance, he was up to the challenge physically, covering the ground and getting stuck in physically. It was his off-the-ball work that played a key part in United’s counter-press that pinned Palace back in the second half and nearly created a second goal for Obi.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="c78749ece7fd074ea5dc1889e7c53f0f" image-id="esmeipf03vrg" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6709px; aspect-ratio: 6709/4473;" ></smartframe-embed>

Jim Thwaites – 7 – Known most for his spectacular set pieces, but it was the simple things that he did really well on the night. His quick one-touch passing in tight areas was pivotal for United exerting control.

Shea Lacey – 7.5 – His incredible run earned the free kick and then his effort from that free kick resulted in Armer opening the scoring. He looked a quality above when he got going and went for it, but would like to see him force the action more and go at his marker relentlessly.

Jack Fletcher – 7 – Finished with an assist and should have had a goal. Good work off the ball saw him win possession for Obi’s goal, and he could have had a goal of his own but he snatched at the chance off his weaker foot.

Victor Musa – 5.5 – Safe in possession but made little impact in the final third.

Chido Obi – 7.5 – Another hard-working display with relentless pressing from the front. He had to feed off scraps for the majority of the first half but did not let his head drop and took his goal excellently when the chance came his way.

Substitutes

Jack Moorhouse – 6.5 – Linked up well with Lacey off the bench with some good movement on the right wing.

James Scanlon – 6 – Did not get involved much off the bench.

Gabriele Biancheri – N/A – Did not have much time to impact the match.

Manchester United have plans to include multiple academy graduates for their pre-season tour in the summer due to the unavailability of several senior stars due to their World Cup commitments.

Irrespective of who the manager will be, the hungry Carrington star kids will be eager to impress in their bid to break through to the first team.

However, The Sun have claimed that one wonderkid is eager to leave on loan despite signing a new deal recently.

Jaydan Kamason, who signed a new deal until 2028 with the option of adding another year, wants to test himself in competitive football instead of playing for the U21s.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimxoHPX3xI" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5142px; aspect-ratio: 5142/3428;" ></smartframe-embed>

Jaydan Kamason loan plans

According to the report, the 19-year-old is keen to join a European side instead of a team in the English football league, as is often the norm when the Red Devils sent their youngsters out on loan.

“JAYDAN KAMASON signed a new contract with United last month and is eyeing a loan next season.

“The 19-year-old right back agreed a two-year deal last month and the plan is for him to secure a season-long loan in 2026-27.

“Kamason is keen on playing in Europe, rather than settling for a Football League side.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="0b629b85ba2abe5ff39df9829ee5fb57" image-id="ARCH417170_00252136" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5616px; aspect-ratio: 5616/4485;" ></smartframe-embed>

Jaydan Kamason will be eager to impress United

The former England U16 international has made 15 appearances in all competitions for the U21s this season, scoring once in a Premier League 2 game against Liverpool.

Excelling as a right-back, Jaydan Kamason can also play further forward if required.

He was catapulted into the limelight last season for his heroics against Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup.

That performance earned him the admiration of then-head coach Ruben Amorim, who selected him in the matchday squad on four occasions in last season’s Europa League.

However, he failed to make it off the bench. A loan in Europe could be the best way to finally catch the club’s eye and make his mark in United’s colours.
