Manchester United’s hunt for Michael Carrick‘s successor has become more complicated, if a recent report is to be believed.
Despite the thrilling win over AS Roma in midweek, the current head coach has until Sunday’s Aston Villa game to save his job.
Eddie Howe was approached about the role during crucial talks, but the INEOS hierarchy is not particularly impressed with the choice.
Recruitment chief Christopher Vivell has been pushing the Red Devils to bring in Julian Nagelsmann and had even spoken to his compatriot to gauge his willingness.
Julian Nagelsmann not interested in United job
However, i Sport has revealed that the former Bayern Munich boss is not too keen on a switch to Old Trafford.
“Director of football Jason Wilcox favours Howe, given his Premier League experience. Ratcliffe also approves.
“Head of recruitment Christopher Vivell wants Julian Nagelsmann, who he worked with at RB Leipzig.
“The former Germany coach is not understood to be interested in the role as it stands, The i Paper understands.”
He will not be short of options with multiple clubs eyeing his services.

INEOS have tough call on their hands
This reluctance could be due to United’s current structure, which the German might not be comfortable with, as seen during his time at Bayern.
In addition, Antonio Conte is demanding a greater share of transfer control, and Unai Emery is close to agreeing a new long-term deal at Villa Park. As a result, the 20-time English league champions are once again running out of options.
Cesc Fabregas is another option on the table, but that is not happening mid-season. Howe appears to be the preferred candidate if things continue to deteriorate.
This situation could potentially give Michael Carrick a longer opportunity, provided the Old Trafford side do not lose heavily to Villa and show the same fight they did against Chelsea in the first half.
