Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford picked up a bronze medal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but his future is no closer to being resolved. The English forward spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where his attacking calibre served Hansi Flick’s tactics well.

Rashford ended the campaign with 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, winning the LaLiga trophy and the Supercopa de Espana.

Contrary to expectations, the Catalans opted against triggering their option to make his loan stay permanent, preferring to sign his international team-mate Anthony Gordon instead. Meanwhile, Rashford was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford by former head coach Ruben Amorim, and recent reports suggest that the Red Devils remain open to his departure.

The Premier League giants were hoping that an impressive outing at the summer’s World Cup could help ignite a bidding war for their academy graduate. Unfortunately, Rashford endured a mixed run with their Three Lions across the Atlantic.

A mixed outing at the 2026 World Cup

Rashford showed flashes of brilliance off the bench in England’s first two games at the World Cup, scoring one goal, prompting Thomas Tuchel to include him in the starting XI against Panama. The Englishman, though, failed to impress, despite playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 win.

The German manager stuck with Rashford for the following game against Congo, but his struggles showed no end. The 28 year old was eventually replaced in the 61st minute by Anthony Gordon, who set up two goals to secure a hard-fought 2-1 comeback win.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9" image-id="fwuQeMXnoJLd" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4033px; aspect-ratio: 4033/2689;" ></smartframe-embed>

Rashford was an unused substitute in the wins over Mexico and Norway next, and came on in the dying minutes in the defeat to Argentina in the semi-final. However, the Englishman was included in the starting XI for the third-place play-off against France last weekend.

Rashford did very well, setting up Bukayo Saka’s first goal before he was replaced by Ollie Watkins at the break. England went on to win the game 6-4.

United ace among 100 fastest players at World Cup

FIFA recently shared statistics from the World Cup, including details about the fastest players at the 2026 World Cup. As expected, Kylian Mbappe registered the highest speed at the tournament, clocking 37.61 km/h.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBRFj9xBzr" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6297px; aspect-ratio: 6297/4198;" ></smartframe-embed>

Meanwhile, Rashford was the fastest United player at the summer’s spectacle, registering a top speed of 35.17 km/h. He was 25th in the overall rankings and the only player from the club to finish inside the top 100 at the World Cup.

Noussair Mazraoui was the second-fastest Red Devils player at the tournament, registering 33.87 km/h and finishing 129th in the list. Amad, on the other hand, clocked a top speed of 33.32 km/h and was ranked 212th among the fastest players at the tournament.

Elsewhere, former United academy graduate Anthony Elanga registered a top speed of 37.16 km/h. That made the Swede , who was once <a href="http://Suggest: World Cup speed rankings: United ace ranks 25th, but "electric" ex-Red Devil takes second spot - report ?Deepungsu Pandit thepeoplesperson.com/2021/07/29/anthony-elanga-ole-gunnar-solskjaer-praises-electric-youngster-233437" target="_blank">described by former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as “electric”, the second-fastest player at the tournament.

Final Thoughts

Rashford’s pace and goalscoring prowess should have been an asset for United, and it is unfortunate how things have panned out for him. While a stay next season cannot be entirely ruled out, perhaps it is best for all parties concerned that he leaves Old Trafford this summer.

Jack Moorhouse is reportedly attracting plenty of interest, with Reading FC and Barnsley among those keen on signing him this summer.

United’s decision

While most of the focus has been on incomings so far, outgoings are equally important as United look to ensure that Michael Carrick is working with an optimal squad ahead of next season.

On the exit front, a number of young players’ futures are yet to be decided. United find themselves in an uncomfortable situation whereby several of their youngsters have outgrown youth football but are not quite ready to make the jump to first-team level at Old Trafford.

Moorhouse appears to fall in this category. He spent most of last season out on loan at Leyton Orient. The Irishman made 20 League One appearances, contributing one assist in that period.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDQOR6Fl7N" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2378px; aspect-ratio: 2378/2972;" ></smartframe-embed>

One of the highest-rated players in United’s youth ranks, Moorhouse then returned to United and slotted back into the Under-21 set-up.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United have decided that another loan spell is the best option for Moorhouse.

The report claimed that there are “countless options” for him across League One. Now, ontheminute.com have revealed two of these potential destinations.

Moorhouse update

According to ontheminute.com, “Reading and Barnsley are showing interest in signing Manchester United youngster Jack Moorhouse on loan next season.”

“Ontheminute.com understands that both clubs are monitoring the midfielder’s situation as United consider the best development route for the highly rated academy prospect.”

“Reading and Barnsley are both keen to strengthen their squads and could offer the teenager a clearer route to first-team minutes.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDcQ2YyoAT" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4028px; aspect-ratio: 4028/2877;" ></smartframe-embed>

It’s understood that Reading and Barnsley are drawn to Moorhouse’s energy, technical ability and versatility in the middle of the park.

The question now is whether United view Reading or Barnsley as the ideal environment for Moorhouse to continue his progression. The two clubs finished within four points of each other last season.

Manchester United want to sign a reliable alternative to Benjamin Sesko.

Joshua Zirkzee is undeniably a unique talent, so gifted technically that he was once labelled a “real baller”. However, he does not offer what United need up front.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="c78749ece7fd074ea5dc1889e7c53f0f" image-id="esmewQeWcR95" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3098px; aspect-ratio: 3098/4647;" ></smartframe-embed>

Given the plentiful chances this team creates, they require a goal poacher rather than a false nine, which is exactly what Zirkzee is.

Unable to provide what United’s attack really needs, the Dutch striker has failed to impact the team’s play as he should. This clearly holds back the 20-time English champions’ attacking efficiency.

A Joshua Zirkzee upgrade needed at Manchester United

The 20-time English champions must now look beyond Zirkzee. They need a striker capable of challenging Sesko while also being lethal in front of goal.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKD8L9n6AAm" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2703px; aspect-ratio: 2703/1936;" ></smartframe-embed>

Yet, for such an arrival to materialise, Zirkzee himself must first make way.

Move to Juventus on

On that front, Gazzetta dello Sport drop a big update regarding the 25‑year‑old’s potential Old Trafford exit. They claim:

“Juventus has received an initial yes from Zirkzee in recent days, enticed by the prospect of returning to Italy and Serie A.

“Zirkzee, too, is being eyed for a loan deal, with links to his entourage led by Kia Joorabchian, also the agent of Douglas Luiz.”

These revelations follow a report The Peoples Person relayed which suggested INEOS are open to a “creative formula” to facilitate the former Bologna forward’s departure.

Opportunity for Manchester United to get a reliable Sesko alternative

With Zirkzee seemingly on his way out, United’s plans to recruit another striker are edging closer to reality.

Sesko, still not fully fit after last season’s injury setback, cannot be overloaded. United would be wise to secure a dependable option to ease the burden.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBEVVojWzt" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4269px; aspect-ratio: 4269/2846;" ></smartframe-embed>

Jean-Philippe Mateta has resurfaced as a transfer target, though he is not the only option. Earlier this summer, talk emerged of INEOS considering an experienced figure such as Danny Welbeck to come and mentor Sesko.

But whether United choose a proven, experienced striker or a younger, hungrier alternative, we will only know once Zirkzee’s situation is finally resolved.

Manchester United have reportedly refused to give up on their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, launching a fresh attempt for him.

Tchouameni interest

Heading into the ongoing summer window, it became apparent that United’s priority was strengthening the midfield, especially after Casemiro’s exit following the expiry of his contract.

Having missed out on top targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, United turned their attention to another marquee player – Tchouameni. The Frenchman, who starred for his country in the World Cup, was branded a dream target for Michael Carrick’s side.

The word was that United would dig deep to bring him in, years after they had failed to act when he departed Monaco. The rumour mill offered two very different narratives: one that he was expendable under Jose Mourinho, and another that he was firmly part of the manager’s plans.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBFXN99LZG" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3389px; aspect-ratio: 3389/3742;" ></smartframe-embed>

What was clear, however, was that Tchouameni was not actively seeking an exit from Madrid and would only entertain the possibility if he felt he was being forced out.

A report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that United had held exploratory talks with Los Blancos regarding the player. Personal terms were not expected to be an issue

And then came the moment that seemed to kill the speculation dead: Tchouameni and Madrid were on the cusp of finalising terms on a contract extension at the Santiago Bernabeu.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBPwhSjTUm" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3798px; aspect-ratio: 3798/2593;" ></smartframe-embed>

News on this front had gone cold until now.

Tchouameni twist

According to Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun, United are still determined to land the 26-year-old and have made fresh enquiries about his availability.

“Manchester United have enquired about Aurelien Tchouameni.”

“United not deterred by reports he has agreed a new extension at Real Madrid and there hasn’t been a formal announcement yet.”

“Mourinho planned on keeping Tchouameni but Rodri-Madrid links have ramped up since Spain won the World Cup.”

#mufc have enquired about Aurelien Tchouameni.

Rodri is understood to be desperate to join Madrid, although Fabrizio Romano reported that club president Florentino Perez was blocking the transfer.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBlgmTMuVs" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3232px; aspect-ratio: 3232/2138;" ></smartframe-embed>

Rodri’s World Cup heroics seem to have inspired a change of heart from Perez and there is a real chance that the Ballon d’Or winner moves to the Spanish capital. This could finally pave the way for Tchouameni to leave, as United patiently lie in wait.

Manchester United are reportedly set to secure the services of Liverpool prodigy Isaac Konde.

Konde interest

Since he assumed operational control of United in February 2024, INEOS chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe has emphasised a policy of signing relatively unknown gems who can be nurtured to potentially become world-class players.

Over the past few windows, United have successfully wrapped up deals for youngsters like Sekou Kone, Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, Chido Obi, Leny Yoro, Harley Emsden-James and Tynan Thompson, just to mention a few names.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimnHWryyPf" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4817px; aspect-ratio: 4817/3211;" ></smartframe-embed>

This summer, United appear to be ramping up efforts to land the best talents English football has to offer.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Red Devils have successfully lured Karim Cassim to the club from Manchester City.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="0b629b85ba2abe5ff39df9829ee5fb57" image-id="mcfcrDV0MDu8" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6885px; aspect-ratio: 6885/4342;" ></smartframe-embed>

United are also said to have completed a deal to sign David Eze, also from City.

Last month, it was indicated that United were eyeing Konde from bitter rivals Liverpool. The 16-year-old is a highly regarded winger who possesses electric pace and dazzling dribbling skills.

He predominantly plies his trade on the left but can also play on the opposite flank and up front if required. He is a regular with Liverpool’s Under-18s and now, United insider Sully reveals that the teenager is poised to swap Anfield for Old Trafford.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="c78749ece7fd074ea5dc1889e7c53f0f" image-id="esmeyrwrxYgT" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 7409px; aspect-ratio: 7409/4940;" ></smartframe-embed>

Konde update

Sully claims, “Roundtable understands that Manchester United have won the race to sign three young players from Liverpool and Manchester City.”

“Isaac Konde from Liverpool, David Eze and Karim Cassim from Manchester City are all set to become Manchester United players. ”

It’s understood that Konde, Eze and Cassim will all initially link up with Darren Fletcher’s Under-18s. They will look to replace JJ Gabriel, who is increasingly likely to be promoted to the first team this season.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="84d65181a95c24c4fea73e44b4e27a17" image-id="ltKDJ1EXwBZ2" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5176px; aspect-ratio: 5176/3697;" ></smartframe-embed>

Gabriel trained with the senior squad this week ahead of Friday’s pre-season clash against Rosenborg.

Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Alex Scott as the 22-year-old midfielder is pushing to leave AFC Bournemouth – but Chelsea pose a major threat to any deal, according to a new report.

Leading Target

The Red Devils have identified Scott as their new priority target to strengthen Michael Carrick’s engine room after being priced out of moves for players such as Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes. Despite having already agreed moves for Brazilian dynamo Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Aston Villa maestro Youri Tielemans, Carrick is intent on adding a third midfielder to his depleted unit.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimQnAcWNFM" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2533px; aspect-ratio: 2533/2026;" ></smartframe-embed>

The departure of Casemiro has been exacerbated by the potentially season-ending knee injury Manuel Ugarte sustained for Uruguay at the World Cup. The 25-year-old Montevideo native was set to join the Brazil international through the exit door, only for this plan to be derailed.

This situation has created a greater sense of urgency to ensure three midfielders arrive at Old Trafford this summer ahead of a return to the Champions League next season. The BBC describes Scott as the “current main target”, though Bournemouth are adamant the England under-21 international will not be leaving the Vitality Stadium this summer.

Scott wants to go

With Scott’s current deal expiring in 2028, talks have been ongoing for several months over a new contract. Bournemouth want this to include a release clause to help protect their position – the same approach adopted with Antoine Semenyo last year.

Yet Scott has turned down these proposals, with The Standard revealing he is “now keen to move on” from the south coast amid growing interest from England’s elite.

The report states Chelsea have seen a £64 million offer rejected for the Manchester United target. Arsenal and Manchester City are also mentioned as suitors, while Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have both previously been linked.

And while Scott’s willingness to leave Bournemouth helps United’s pursuit, Chelsea’s firm interest does not. The Standard claims he “wants to join” the Blues as the west London club are in the “market for a midfielder, with Enzo Fernandez having expressed his desire to leave the club.”

However, there have been no offers for Fernandez yet – and Chelsea’s exorbitant asking price of £120 million will prove prohibitive for any potential suitors, including Real Madrid. Whether Scott would be willing to move to Stamford Bridge without the Argentine first departing remains to be seen.

Nonetheless, Chris Wheeler (Daily Mail) claims United would likely “need to sell players” were Bournemouth to open the door to his exit anyway. Chelsea, by contrast, have no issue laying down big money for their targets – as the record-breaking pursuit of Morgan Rogers proves.

Final Thoughts

Described as an “absolute diamond” by one of his former coaches, Scott has quietly emerged as one of the Premier League’s most well-rounded midfielders since arriving at the Vitality Stadium from Bristol City for £25 million in 2023. Capable of playing in virtually every role in the engine room, Manchester United’s interest – along with virtually every other top club in England – is understandable, particularly given his age and homegrown status.

The Guernsey native is valued at £42 million, though Bournemouth are understood to consider him worth close to double that if they are to be forced to sell. Having signed Tielemans, a similarly versatile operator to Scott, alongside Kobbie Mainoo who plays in the same areas, it may be wiser for the Red Devils to target a natural No.6; a ground eater capable of dominating duels and controlling transitions.

Whether this player is available on the market this summer in the way that Scott is pushing to be is an entirely different proposition, however.

Manchester United have successfully lured Manchester City wonderkid Karim Cassim to Old Trafford in yet another major coup for the Red Devils, a well-placed academy source reveals.

Midfield Magician

Cassim is considered one of the brightest talents in Manchester City’s academy, having broken through to the Citizens’ under-18 side last year despite only turning 16 at the start of the campaign.

The England under-17 international is a versatile midfielder, capable of playing in the No. 6, No. 8 or No. 10 roles. His passing is purposeful and precise, while his decision-making on the ball shows a maturity few in his age group possess.

Possessing a wand of a right foot, the youngster is also a goal threat, having scored three times last season, including this “absolute rocket” against Burnley.

With his 17th birthday fast approaching (12 September), Cassim will be eligible to enter into his first professional contract, as per Premier League regulations for academy players.

Increasingly, the battleground for the best young talent is now taking place at youth level, with England’s top clubs aiming to secure their signature in hope of landing the next Jude Bellingham – or Ayden Heaven.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neim7b1O87RS" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3518px; aspect-ratio: 3518/2343;" ></smartframe-embed>

United strike deal

The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of Cassim, with talks ongoing in recent months to gauge whether it would be possible to convince him to cross the inter-city divide.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed there was confidence Cassim had opted for the red half of Manchester over the blue – which a reliable academy source has now confirmed.

Earlier today, Manchester United were said to have sealed a deal for a different Manchester City wonderkid, David Eze. Now, MUFC Youth contends it is a double raid as Cassim has also greenlit the switch.

Tweet: “Manchester United have completed the Double Signing of Karim Cassim and David Eze from Rivals Manchester City.”

The account is considered highly reliable for youth football updates, having previously lifted the lid on United’s moves for Samuel Lusale and Heaven.

Attacking Football, who broke the news of Eze’s switch, have now also confirmed the news, claiming United have “completed a deal to sign highly rated Manchester City midfielder Karim Cassim.”

Final Thoughts

Since taking charge of the football operation at Old Trafford, INEOS have implemented a renewed focus on signing the best “emerging talent” from across the globe. The captures of Malian wonderkid Sekou Kone or Paraguayan sensation Diego Leon underscore this ‘worldwide’ approach.

But Manchester United’s rulers are also unafraid to go toe to toe with their local rivals if they deem a youngster worth pursuing. The double raid for Cassim and his teammate Eze is just the latest example, with a deal struck for Tottenham Hotspur’s 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson earlier this week.

Earlier this week, Manchester United completed the signing of Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils plan to integrate Thompson, an 18-year-old winger, directly into their first-team squad.

Furthermore, The Athletic reported that United are exploring additional opportunities in the English youth market.

They claimed that United are in talks to sign Karim Cassim from Manchester City. Meanwhile, it has now emerged that they have secured the services of another midfield prospect from their noisy neighbours.

Manchester United sign David Eze

According to Attacking Football, Manchester United have completed a deal to sign highly rated midfielder David Eze from Manchester City.

The 16-year-old, who was born in Dublin, is reportedly set to leave City and continue his development at United’s Carrington academy.

“Eze is considered one of the standout midfielders of his generation. Tall, powerful and confident in possession, he has established a reputation as a complete modern box-to-box midfielder,” the report states.

Known for driving the ball forward and breaking opposition lines, Eze has featured several times at under-17 level and captained England’s under-16 side on multiple occasions.

Manchester United nearing double swoop

The Secret Scout, a reputable source for youth football and transfer news, is also reporting that Eze is joining United.

Furthermore, it is revealed that he had an offer from Arsenal. However, he has now agreed to move to the red side of Manchester and will sign a professional deal once he turns 17.

Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill.

On Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano claimed that United are not exploring a deal for Gill, given the Red Devils have already signed Karl Darlow to provide cover to Senne Lammens next season.

However, reports in South America suggest United are pushing to get Gill’s signing over the line this summer.

Orlando Gill’s agent has “bombshell” offer from Manchester United

DSports Radio (via Sport Witness) cover journalist Gonzalo Orellano’s claims that Manchester United have made a bid for Orlando Gill.

Gill’s agent has supposedly revealed that he is handling an offer close to $8m [€7m] from the Premier League giants. This is, however, still short of San Lorenzo’s demand of €10m.

BOMBAZO: MANCHESTER UNITED OFERTA POR ORLANDO GILL

A San Lorenzo todavía no le llegó nada y esperarán por la oferta… pic.twitter.com/qk5Gf8gZtI

— DSports Radio 103.1 FM (@DSportsRadio) July 21, 2026

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Paraguayan’s contract, which runs until December 2027, includes a €20m release clause. San Lorenzo are hoping to take advantage of the rise in Gill’s reputation by securing a significant fee.

Orellano underlines that the Argentine side have not received any formal proposal, which means Gill’s agent is yet to transfer the supposed bid to the player’s club. Still, it is believed the San Lorenzo star will definitely leave this summer.

Orlando Gill was phenomenal in the World Cup

It has been previously reported in Brazil that United have made initial contact to assess a potential transfer for Gill, who emerged as one of the standout South American stars at the World Cup.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBvIfX0ouo" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 7333px; aspect-ratio: 7333/5129;" ></smartframe-embed>

The Paraguay international was named FIFA’s Player of the Match against both Germany and France. Furthermore, the 6’6″ giant made the highest number of saves (23) in the tournament.

While Gill appears to be a solid shot-stopper, it is difficult to see where he would fit in at United, given the Red Devils already have five senior goalkeepers and are looking to offload Radek Vítek and Altay Bayındır.

As such, it seems United’s name is being used to drum up interest from other European clubs.
